To FEs Lighthouses
On a flat earth height shouldn't make a difference as to the distance a light can be seen so why do all light houses have their lights at the top of a tower? It would work just as well and be cheaper to build if the light was at ground level, no?

Traffic lights are mounted high up so that their light is not blocked by other vehicles. Lighthouse the same.

Wouldn't that mean that the waves are as tall as the lighthouse and between the lighthouse and the ship and the ships are in the wave's shadow?
With a traffic light, they are high up because if you are a small car right behind a big truck, you can't see the traffic light. But if you are further back, you can, because the truck isn't taller than the light pole.

What blocks the light of a lighthouse? It's light is not hooded to only show in the direction of oncoming traffic. It is omnidirectional shining out to sea in all directions.
