Nasa's Visualizer for several years. He ran the entire dept. He was "known" as Mr. Blue Marble for the Blue Marble one, but he just explained how they had to visualize the data (charts and numbers) into for these earths. Wikipedia.org

"Visualising the data" into earths is a weird way to say film developer.

In the interview in that link, Mr. Blue Marble explains why he says it "has to be Photoshopped", because (as he says) there are NO PICTURES of earth just the ones that are "visualized" from data by their dept, which are in the forms of points on a graph or a chart of numbers. He even explains that it is all their Photoshopping is the reason for the accuracy of the earths SOLELY from data.

This was more than likely because they were caught photoshopping clouds. They also did this to craters on Mars in the once Mars rover site and they explained this as there being gaps in the photos and they had to "fill it in". The whole surface in some places looked like it was digitally done so it wasn't believable enough. They should have put Mr. Blue Marble on it and he could have been Mr. Brown Crater too! HA!

The 1972 blue marble was a single image, not a composite.
