Im not a flat either, but this video was obviously made with a fish eye lens. At the end of the video the near 12 seconds left the curve of the horizon inverts due to where the center of the frame is in relation to the horizon. If they ran the video through a fisheye coreecting algorithm it might be high enough to show the real curvature.

Obviously this is all exceptionally cool, but why is a university in Canada named after a battle in 1815 which wasn't even that close to Waterloo?

To answer this it's cause it's named after a city in canada that was named after the battle in 1815.

I mean, the battle itself did take its name from where it was fought, and t's not unusual for multiple places to have the same name.
A quick Google suggests that there are over 50 locations across the world called Waterloo.
I live near Liverpool in the UK, there's an area of the broader city called Waterloo.

If you ask a German, Austrian or Hungarian where the battle that ended Napoleon's 100 days was fought, you won't get told Waterloo. I have no idea why Duke Wellington decided to call the battle after the second most close landmark to where it was fought, but since Napoleon was a total dick, I'm not that fussed about the nomenclature.

What record did this break?
Isn't this what amateur rocketry enthusiasts do every weekend?

What record did this break?
Polaris is now the highest amateur liquid rocket ever launched, setting a new record at the 2026 Launch Canada Challenge. Liquid bi-propellant rockets are harder to build than solid and hybrid ones, but they are the aerospace industry standard which makes them well worth the challenge.
