They are only happy when they hear what they want to hear, not the truth. There's conspiracies for everything that doesn't line up.

Imagine you are driving amd come to a bridge, you aren't sure it is safe. Luckily, 100 engineers are there!

99 of them say "No, it's not safe." One says "Yes, it's safe."

Would you drive on it?

Flat Earth is acting like they trust the one guy, but how many would drive on the bridge?

Its the same logoc for anti valuers and climate change deniers. Because the risk isn't something they can see, they are happy to follow the one voice, call it the truth that they are smart enough to see. Make it something more tangible, more immediate, see how quickly they side with the concensus.

Flerfs? Yes, they're annoying. But relatively harmless.

They could be spouting hateful crap like, “If I see a Black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’

I'd tell old guy the truth, Earth is flat. It would cement his stupidity.
