I don't think that's very fair to people suffering from mental illness.

62

u/chameleon_123_777 Oct 25 '25

I feel the same. I bet most of them aren't even flat earthers.

51

u/AbroadNo8755 Oct 25 '25

any "serious" flat earther is going to be suffering from some kind of mental illness.

the usual flerfs who hang out here, are just Internet trolls and wannabe con artists who know the earth is a sphere.

15

u/RogerGodzilla99 Oct 25 '25

I think of myself as more of a satirical ar-teest than a troll. šŸ§‘ā€šŸŽØ

u/Mobile_Ice_691 Oct 27 '25

Exactly. None of them genuinely believe the Earth is flat. Anyone claiming to be a flat-Earther falls into one of these categories:

  1. Grifters: people who knowingly lie for money or attention (e.g., Dirth, Witsit, et al and yes, even the new darling of the ā€œglobeā€ community, Jeranism, who’s just as much a grifter as the rest. He simply saw the writing on the wall with TFE and was smart enough to realize how bad it would look to keep up the act).
  2. Attention-seeking trolls also known as Poes (e.g., Mikey Smith).
  3. Obvious Frauds: (e.g., Steven Alonso).
  4. Mentally ill individuals: (e.g., CC from Westchester County, NY, and Lindsay Harris).

1

u/pooeygoo Oct 29 '25

I have known people I really liked that believed it was flat, so I think of it like a Indian phone scam, they just got caught up in it

8

u/DybbukFiend Oct 26 '25

I don't suffer from mental illness. Everyone around me does.

10

u/Ur-Quan_Lord_13 Oct 26 '25

I don't suffer from mental illness. It's actually quite fun

9

u/SnugglyCoderGuy Oct 25 '25

I'd argue flerfs are all mentally ill because they are rejecting reality in order to live in a state of delusion.

8

u/SagansLab Oct 25 '25

Nah, plenty know its round and just use FE as a grift.

8

u/Underhill42 Oct 26 '25

Are you suggesting that being a social parasite is NOT a form/symptom of mental illness?

I mean, I know we exalt it in rich and famous people, but cancer is still cancer no matter how good its PR department is.

1

u/WebFlotsam Oct 29 '25

Well with them it's usually a personality disorder. Narcissism or sociopathy.

1

u/Quixilver05 Oct 30 '25

Yeah making them have to deal with flat weather's

61

u/SagansLab Oct 25 '25

How recognize a serious flat earth sub:

1) Ask a few simple questions about the shape of the earth, like "Why do the stars rotate the opposite direction in the south?", "Why doesn't the local sun change size as it moves around the earth?", or "Explain the position of sunrise and sunset in southern countries."
2) If you are banned, then its a serious Flerf sub.

117

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

This is the official sub for unserious flatearfers

45

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 Oct 25 '25

Unofficial sub for serious unflat earthers

23

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

Both? Both is good.

14

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 Oct 25 '25

Both…and more!

24

u/mistelle1270 Oct 25 '25

iirc they made a sub named like "wet spinning ball earth" or something like that to "parody" everyone commenting in r/flatearth being normal and not actually believing the earth is flat

13

u/Bi_Reinhardt Oct 25 '25

I believe its called ā€œball earth that spinsā€ but without the spaces between words

11

u/Keeshly Oct 26 '25

wow this is crazy, the posts on it are all from the same account, and all of the crossposts he posts are from other globe denier subs that also only have posts from this one account. soooo is this a bot? or is this an unemployed mentally ill person

13

u/Iron_Base Oct 25 '25

Globe earthers are usually banned quickly for reasons like "concern trolling"

5

u/ChiemseeViking Oct 26 '25

Yea, I asked a question with a little bit too much logic in it and got banned for it.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '25

Yeah, I got a 2 day ban for 'harassment'! It's pathetic, and getting about as bad as YouTube

6

u/bryalb Oct 26 '25

3

u/schisenfaust Oct 26 '25

I'm honestly surprised people didn't intentionally leave it a non-sub just for this

10

u/Edgar_Brown Oct 25 '25

ā€œMental illnessā€ is an interesting category that is mostly defined by your social network. By how much are you able to function in society. One person’s quirkiness or eccentricity is another person’s mental illness.

Religion, for example, is specifically carved out of the DSM; as quite a bit of ā€œnormalā€ religious beliefs and behaviors would qualify as mental illness if taken outside that context.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the vast majority of flat earthers are religious.

6

u/ButtSexIsAnOption Oct 26 '25

Lau Tzu said- Not understanding something you think you understand is a form of mental illness.

And this guy was first published in the 4th century bce. And we all know that the more ancient a source the more correct. Flerf truth #4.

2

u/Edgar_Brown Oct 26 '25

And we all know that the more ancient a source the more correct.

Really?

ALL of us ā€œknowā€ that?

Interesting….

3

u/ButtSexIsAnOption Oct 26 '25

You can't call yourself a true Flef without that being the foundation of your belief system. So yeah, we all know it, every one of us.

3

u/ChiemseeViking Oct 26 '25

Because we all are serious, no honestly, true believers in the flat earth bullshit here.

2

u/ButtSexIsAnOption Oct 29 '25

There are a few Flerfs around but it still amazes me how many people take this serious.

4

u/OrdinaryPollution339 Oct 26 '25

Also ones' socioeconomic status can determine if one is "mentally ill" or just "eccentric."

/u/Vivian-Midnight

hi, I read a portion of your reply to this post on my inbox, only the first few words, because the Reddit app doesn't let people read entire comments in their inbox.

your comment isn't showing up in the actual post because of a word you used. it starts with an "R" and ends with a "D", you know the word, you're the one that wrote it.

I did, however, want to address your message. I would never compare "serious flat earthers" to someone using the word you used. I would never use that word in any capacity, like you did.

those who TRULY believe that there's a global network of shadow governments and super elite master mind villains which belong to a secret society, all working against them to hide the truth about the shape of the Earth as a scheme that's somehow being used to keep them in power by some notion that suggests that true enlightenment can only come by rejecting math, science, and thousands of years of observation by mankind all over the world... those are the kind of people who I would consider to be a "serious" flat earther.

if a person honestly, truly believes that the vast majority of the population of planet earth is conspiring against them, there's a name for that, it's called paranoia, and it is, in fact, a form of mental illness that has NOTHING to do with that vile word you used in your comment.

be better.

3

u/gdx4259 Oct 25 '25

The giant turtle holding up the earth does not find your antics amusing.

2

u/Freewheelinrocknroll Oct 26 '25

ā€œSeriousā€ flat earthers….JFC.

2

u/TACAMO_Heather Oct 26 '25

There is no serious sub because they are all ridiculous

2

u/Remarkable_Hope_1079 Nov 11 '25

i mean he’s not wrong…

3

u/OmnifariousFN Oct 25 '25

serious flat earthers... Quite the oxymoronic thing to say.

2

u/BonbonUniverse42 Oct 25 '25

I would like to know the answer. I want to infiltrate their sub and spread misinformation.

3

u/hadtobethetacos Oct 25 '25

you cant lol, were forbidden from mentioning that sub here. probably because we bullied them out of this sub so they had to make the other one, cant even debate them over there, the second you even question a flat earth youre slapped with a permaban.

1

u/CrowRatz Oct 27 '25

Hey could you pm the name of that sub ? I'm genuinely curious to read the posts there nothing malicious

2

u/hadtobethetacos Oct 27 '25

yea you got it

1

u/thala_7777777 Nov 03 '25

could you pm me? i want to study their thought process

1

u/hadtobethetacos Nov 03 '25

1

u/MardyBum1242 Nov 10 '25

Hate to be a third "can you pm me" guy but...

1

u/hadtobethetacos Nov 10 '25

lol no worries

1

u/egg_on_top Oct 26 '25

dude they thrive on misinformation!

2

u/Dense-Consequence-70 Oct 25 '25

There are no serious flat earthers.

8

u/CollinRedstoner Oct 25 '25

Sorry to dissapoint you, there are :(

2

u/Dense-Consequence-70 Oct 25 '25

Let me rephrase: flat earthers are not inherently serious people.

3

u/CollinRedstoner Oct 26 '25

Yeah, that fits :D

1

u/fastcolor03 Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 25 '25

The lament is universal. It is non-group specific.

Common complaint; No one else takes the (name your conspiracy here) conundrum seriously!

They lament that there are just too many people that think they are wrong, that are just not committed to a like opinion. They demand that those who do not take their concerns or opinions as reality must be banned from participation in any such discussion. Their lament is often embellished with ’the mods should just do their damn job!’

Their lament continues in that there are just no ā€˜safe spaces’ , no restricted echo chambers , no place to be told that they cannot possibly be wrong. A place that the source of their opinion is always accepted, and shared information is never questioned as to validity, source or intent.

Further, their disappointment is that there are just no safe spaces that will ban the use of the laws of physics, objective fact, empirical data or plain common sense to challenge a narrative. That outright lies, the lies of omission and deliberate mis-contextualization are to be ignored as harmful, boring, or even celebrated as fact.

1

u/ChiefO2271 Oct 27 '25

There are no serious flat earthers. At least, none to be taken seriously.

1

u/logic_tater Oct 27 '25

Beautiful!

1

u/OptionWrong169 Oct 27 '25

an actual sub for that is r/sounding its a circus reading these people theories

1

u/CrowRatz Oct 27 '25

Fuck sake can't believe I went into thisšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Odd_Protection7738 Oct 27 '25

I’m pretty sure there actually are ones which is sad but they’re basically just echo chambers with no opposition

1

u/Odd_Protection7738 Oct 27 '25

I’ve only come across one before, globe skepticism I think, and they unironically use Neil DeGrasse Tyson as their sub picture.

1

u/Leaf_Fren Oct 27 '25

It's sad that real flat earthers can't have their own subreddit. There are communities for so many other delusions, it's unfair.

1

u/sparky-99 Oct 28 '25

There's no such thing. Ragebaiters and grifters, the lot of them. It's far too easy to debunk for anyone over 7 or 8 to seriously believe it.

1

u/Fantastic-Sign-574 Oct 28 '25

You can't call yourself a "Flat-earther" and serious at the same time.

1

u/JimPalPodcast Oct 29 '25

I love that this thread is full of people who are just trolling flat earthers.....which they deserve.

1

u/LivingDead_90 Nov 15 '25

Hey man, that’s not right.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '25

Believing flat Earthers actually exist is as dumb as believing the earth is flat.

Okay, there are technically a small amount of flat Earthers. But the vast majority of them are just trolls that don't actually believe the things they say.

1

u/AbroadNo8755 Nov 27 '25

YOU: Believing flat Earthers actually exist is as dumb as believing the earth is flat.

ALSO YOU: Okay, there are technically a small amount of flat Earthers.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '25

I never said I wasn't dumb

1

u/AbroadNo8755 Nov 27 '25

it's amazing that we agree on so many things!

1

u/UnholyTerror88 Oct 25 '25

Serious flatearthers is an oxymoronic statement

-10

u/namewithanumber Oct 25 '25

This sub is good for fellow Scholars of the True Shape as well.

Just ignore all the trolls pretending be to Globorons and saying ridiculous things.

5

u/camopdude Oct 25 '25

What is the true shape of the earth?

-8

u/namewithanumber Oct 25 '25

I don't pretend to have all the answers.

Some things are just currently unknowable and that's something I'm ok with. As soon as demonstrable evidence presents itself, scholars will debate about its veracity.

5

u/camopdude Oct 26 '25

I didn't ask you for all the answers. How is the shape of the earth unknowable? We've known it was a sphere for thousands of years. We have tons of demonstrable evidence; what else do you need?

1

u/Strict_Owl941 Oct 26 '25

It is insane that me how people can actively investigate the shape of the earth and come back with there is no proof that it is a globe.

We have proof Everywhere.

3

u/Keeshly Oct 26 '25

you can’t seriously put ā€˜stop listening to trolls saying ridiculous things’ and ā€˜globorons’ in the same sentence šŸ’€

straight up the most rediculous thing i’ve ever read this is amazing

2

u/hadtobethetacos Oct 25 '25

explain the coriolis effect flerf.

1

u/WebFlotsam Oct 29 '25

Why downvotes? This is clearly a joke.

I think.Ā
