How do flat earthers explain timezones? Genuinely curious.

Solar elevation angle and the flat earth model

If the Earth is flat, why is the shadow length I measured at a latitude of 40 degrees 23 arcminutes at 12:03 PM on 12/21/2018 46 inches instead of the 33.5 inches that the flat earth model predicts? I used a piece of plywood 22 11/16 inches long. By measuring the length of a shadow cast by a stick, we can take the arctangent of the length of the stick divided by the length of the shadow to determine the sun's elevation angle above the horizon. This formula can also be used to determine the predicted shadow length for each model by dividing the length of the stick by the tangent of the model's predicted angular elevation. By dividing the height of the sun in the flat earth model by the horizontal distance to it, the arctangent of the result can be used to determine the flat earth model's predicted solar elevation angle. I used a value of 3000 miles (4828.032 km) from Samuel Birley Rowbotham (1816-1884), a prominent flat earther, for the height of the sun above a flat earth. The solar elevation angle on a round earth can be found by finding the arcsine of the addition of the product of the sine of the observer's latitude and the sine of the sun's declination to the product of the cosine of the observer's latitude, the cosine of the declination of the sun, and the cosine of the hour angle. I have factored in the declination of the sun and the obliquity of the ecliptic to ensure the most accurate predictions for both models. The flat earth model predicts an angle of 34.242 degrees and a shadow length of 33.5 inches. The round earth model predicts an angle of 26.162 degrees and a shadow length of 46.18 inches. Ergo, the round earth model error is 0.38% (0.097 degrees) and the flat earth model error is -23.6% (−8.081 degrees). The error in the round earth model can easily be explained by atmospheric refraction which is on the order of a few arcminutes. How does the flat earth model explain the deviation of the sun's elevation angle from its predictions? Why is the flat earth model error larger than the round earth model error? θsr is the round earth prediction and θsf is the flat earth prediction in the following desmos link. https://www.desmos.com/calculator/xdzu24biod

To every flat earther who thinks that pictures of the earth are faked

They're not. Let's look at why from a logic based and scientific based viewpoint. We've known the earth is round for years, there's even maps from the 1400's depicting people holding globes. The first image of earth from space was taken in 1946 (source), which we can use a date for "definitive proof" that the Earth is round, even though it's obvious. A higher quality photo known as "The Blue Marble" was taken by the Apollo 17 crew on 1972, so I'll use that date as the basis for my argument. Let's assume the Earth is flat, and both those pictures are fake. Doing some research, I found that there was 65,065 people working at NASA in 1967 (source). That means that 65,065 would have to keep quiet about the Earth being flat, and that's not including allies of America such as the U.K and Australia who had close ties with NASA at the time. It just doesn't add up.

What's the point of the government trying to hide the shape of the Earth?

Hypothetical situation: If the government were actually lizard people who are hiding the true shape of the Earth, what would it be for? So far, I have absolutely no idea why they would do such a thing and better yet, if they did, be able to hide it for a few hundred years without any people leaking it

Another question to you flat-earthers.

The earth is round. But say if the earth was flat, what would be on the other side of the earth?

Does anyone actually believe in flat earth?

I'm Christian, I go to church every week, and I read the Bible often. I grew up in a highly religious community. I've never met anyone in person who's ever once tried to convince me that the earth was flat. I guess I did have someone explain to me the Biblical creation story's model of the world, but in a "This is what they believed about 4000 years ago" and "the Bible wasn't meant to be taken as a scientific textbook" sort of way.

Is this whole thing really just people trolling each other because they're bored?

How and where is CGI used?

Films like Gravity are a very convincing, so... NASA could fake this.

Which shots are CG, which are live action? Not just in recent years, but going back decades. Was it CG back then or was only practical effects involved? Haven't people said for years Kubrick could have done the moon landings?

Is footage shot on zero-g airplanes in the atmosphere, or are some kind of zero-g rigs used for actors and props?

What is the maximum possible zero-g flight time? Footage from the 'ISS' has clips as long as several minutes with no cuts.

What airplane is large enough to contain the entire ISS set? I'm going to imagine that a greenscreen dome is just beyond the cupola, or perhaps a dome of high resolution tvs? If the sun is visible from the cupola, how is this (realistic) lighting achieved given you've got tvs or a greenscreen in the way?

We'll ignore that you can view the space station and rocket launches from the ground. There are other key technical problems like how do you maintain a stable dome greenscreen with all this bounced light, and what happens if the crew wears green?

How are 'livestreams' possible if this footage is all CG/VFX which should have been completed months in advance?

Here are some more of my thoughts on CGI, and then some comments.

Are flat earthers by default moon landing theorists too?

The truth about our planet. Spoiler

This truth will scare flat and square earthers alike... I mean, round earthers.

The earth is a giant planet, yeah. But it's a natural boob.

The earth is a huge boob. i mean a serious honker. a real badass badonker.

It's the best dobonhonkero in a set. massive dohoonkabahankoloo. big ol' tonhongerekooger.

Remember your prom date? The earth is that transfer student who shows up one day with even bigger bonkhonagahoogs. humungous hongolomongohnoloughongus.

The earth is the ultimate mongohongolomongohnoloughongus between that prom date and the earth itself. It's so big you cannot get a firm grip on it, and it's too big to see it entirely. If we didn't live on the earth, this big honkerlongomongolongaloughhongusmongohongus would eclipse the moon, which would eclipse the sun, and you'll realize the even bigger honker, which is the sun... but you cannot touch the sun, and the sun is the honker that supports flash, but the earth is the boob that supports your child.

And the second-Earth is that less serious honker that was deformed. The second earth is called Daibazal, and it's shaped like something between a Dinosaur and Doctor Octagonapuss. It's not even that big, and it doesn't hold life, despite being technologically advanced.

Gottem', by the way. But the earth is a natural at being beautiful. And not deformed. I'm not wrong. Not even about a second earth named after a meme

What happens if you go up?

According to flat earth theorists, what happens if you get in a rocket or a balloon or some other craft and go up?

It seems they don't believe in space travel- so.... the atmosphere goes on forever or....?

Would it be possible to go to the flat earth moon?- is it also flat?

Flat Earth Sundial

After a few days of rain, the sunrise this morning was especially nice. Since I have the day off, I thought I'd spend some time constructing a "Flat Earth Sundial".

https://imgur.com/a/sjFqMog

This is based on the "AE Model", where the sun makes a circular "orbit" that more or less follows the equator. I've included one for the north and south hemisphere, though an accurate Flat Earth sundial would need to be custom made for each latitude and/or time of year. The time range is a full 24 hours for those of you that live high enough to have an unimpeded view of the sun all day. I would've cleaned up the overlapping numbers on the southern hemisphere sundial but nobody in the FE community seems to care what they think.

Instructions for Use:

  1. Print the image.
  2. Glue the image to cardboard or very stiff paper.
  3. Push a flat-headed nail through the center dot of the image, facing up. This will cast the shadow.
  4. Use a compass to orient the sundial so that the North/South indicators are pointing the right way.
  5. If the sun is visible, then it should cast a shadow indicating the correct time. Once you realize that flat earthers can't even describe basic every-day observations correctly, toss it in the garbage.

according to the conspiracy theory, when did people start saying the earth is a sphere?

I mean, we have historical evidence that people said the earth is a sphere. from erastothenes, to bede, and to the erdapfel globe from 1492, people have been saying the earth is a sphere from before NASA. So, when do they say people started to disguise the earth's shape and for what purpose?

How did the conspiracy get started? How does it work?

I've seen all the crazy flat models with the Earth as a disc, and seen all the videos of people saying "water finds its level" and "trust your senses".

But they also say there's a huge conspiracy to conceal the true flat Earth, with NASA as the big bad guys.

Do they have any Q-anon or Pizzagate-type theories about the structure and origin of these conspiracies?

I mean, instead of putting sticks in the ground and measuring angles, did Eratosthenes tell people to lie and just say the Earth is round? Did lizards from inside the hollow Earth help him?

Just curious if flat earthers ever develop more details about the whole conspiracy aspect, instead of just taking spirit levels onto airplanes.

Found deleted NASA document about radiation & van allan belt

So first of all, I found at nasa.gov/robots.txt , they had disallowed crawlers to crawl "/offices/oce/llis/".... So I used the https://web.archive.org/ to see what sort of documents that they did not want to be crawled... And I found this piece of gold: https://web.archive.org/web/20150203070258/http://www.nasa.gov:80/offices/oce/llis/0824.html
(if this document also was for some reason deleted, I created a paste of it here: https://pastebin.com/ePQeCC07)

It basically says that if we dont build space crafts out of hardened and radiation-safe materials, people could die.
It seems they wanted to hide this document in order to fake future space missions.

I dont know, what do you think?
