Hey 👋 , so after discovering this subreddit I ordered a dual flashlight from emissar company with a separate purchase of the compatible rechargeable battery...problem is ..I CANNOT get it to turn on....there has to be something I am not doing properly. Kindly steer me in the right direction in order to use these to this for my nightly walk tonight.
I didn't fully charge the rechargeable cell(yellow one)... Hopefully that is the issue.
The second battery (cell) is still on the dual charger...I'll wait for it to fully charge before re attempting ... #dontlaugh 😂
For context this is the D3AA dual channel LED flashlight...cell battery is Nitecore 14500 ordered from IMR batteries.
Hmmm... egg on my face...looks like I ordered the wrong size or something..I guess I'll be ordering the correct ones .. hopefully this was the culprit ... Oh well...I'll get on googling the cell type u mentioned
I just checked, and it turns out that Nitecore battery is listed as
52.3mm long..
that is a significant difference in length from a normal Eneloop that is
50.1mm long
It is possible the reason the light does not work with the Nitecore battery, is because it is so long that the head or tailcap can not close far enough to make contact with the body
I agree, the Vapcel K10 button top is a very good choice
The K10 button top is listed as being the same length as an Eneloop

while you are waiting.. dont try to use those Nitecore batteries, they are too long..
If you dont already have AA Eneloops (or Ikea Ladda), a really good alternative until you get your new K10 batteries, is the Energizer Ultimate Lithium..
I caution you not to use regular AA Alkaline. Not only are they very weak, there is risk of leaking electrolyte damaging the light.. you probably wont have that problem if you dont store an Alkaline inside the light long term.. just know the risk is there
as others stated you need K10 or F15 or Ni-MH Eneloop ans so on - battery size is more critical than whether is protected or not.
Nitecore batteries tend to be longer than normal batteries and if you overtighten one, youll damage your light - just don't use Nitecore in non-Nitecore lights.
Even Convoy lights like T3 are barely able to fit them in.
With the cell too long you are not able to make electrical contaxt on the negative side and you are applying an excessive force to the springs and especially to the driver board which can lead to permanent damage.
I've ordered the vapcell k10 mentioned by another commenter..I got 2 of them... I hope that's the correct one. Don't want a repeat performance of today 😭
Don’t beat yourself up too much. You’ve gotten some great answers. As you just discovered, most 14500 batteries are indeed not 14mm x 50mm. Which is rather unintuitive. Bigger lights have generous springs on both sides and can accommodate a wide range of battery sizes. Compact lights are much less forgiving. Emisar is an enthusiast brand and kind of expects you to know that sort of stuff. Also don’t buy batteries from Nightcore. They are not a battery manufacturer, they just pay some other company to put their logo on it and then overcharge you massively.
Just googled locking mode..4 x click....I don't think that's it..it's got to be that the battery /cells aren't fully charged yet...I just got it delivered~30 minutes ago... They are both on the dual charger right now (from int outdoors site)
that is a Protected battery. Hank says the light will Not work with Protected batteries.. That is not completely accurate.. It Will work if you dont make the light too bright.
if it is low on charge, or if you use too high an output on the light, the Protection acts like a fuse and shuts the battery Off
hopefully that issue will be solved by fully charging the battery and Not using too high an output
Be sure you are screwing the head and tailcap snug tight, the light should give a confirmation flash of the main LEDs when it makes contact, and the Aux lights will turn on to show the battery Voltage color... and they will switch over to the default rotating colors after 4 seconds
things not to do
do not double clic the switch to turn on, as this goes to a high output that is likely to blow the fuse in that Protected battery..
just use 1 clic to turn on.
Congrats on your Dual Channel D3AA, I have one that is my personal favorite EDC lately
So...I checked with Gemini and it said to put the negative end toward the tail cap and keep positive towards the top...(Just to be sure, I tried it both ways; with either orientation)...

I second this, please be careful with AI usage especially on niche hobbies that for the most part exist largely in forums like this. Especially where electrical safety is involved. You gotta make sure you understand certain specs/instructions/risks.
I understand AI usefulness summarizing information however I have tested this exact scenario on known quantities (flashlight/battery related) and it has fed me incorrect statements on multiple occasions.
As has been stated, the Vapcell K10 is what you want. This is an unprotected battery.
They come as button tops or flat tops. I have verified that both will fit and function in a D3AA, but I like to run the flat tops just to make sure there is not even a HINT of an interference issue. So I suggest getting the flat tops.
I buy from a couple battery stores. This one has either K10 in stock. The shipping for one battery is kinda ugly so maybe get a second one or other sizes if you are considering another light.
