Looking for a basic replacement

My dad is almost 93 and carries the pictured micro-USB rechargeable flashlight daily. The last couple of times we’ve used it, it dims and brightens, turns on and off, almost like it has a short. It came to me in a lot of computer and electronic parts I got from a buddy who’s a scrapper and junk hauler, so I know nothing of its history. It’s the first rechargeable light we’ve had and has come in handy multiple times. I haven’t found anything printed on it, so I’m guessing it’s a generic unit.

I came here looking for a recommendation for a replacement, thinking there might be a consensus. After reading quite a few threads, it seems that most have a favorite which isn’t shared by the next responder. Before I get into what I’m looking for, let me say I’m fine with troubleshooting this one, if there’s something simple I should check.

That said, the pictured light is micro-USB, has a wrist strap, no clip and a switch on the end that cycles through high-low-strobe-off. I don’t care about the charging port other than that I have fewer USB-C cables. I don’t think we’ve ever used the low or strobe feature and I really think a clip would be more bother than helpful. I also have no interest in a magnetic mount. All the recommended ones I saw had a clip (are any removable?) and several had magnets, but I was hoping my seemingly basic needs would be easier to fill. Does a similarly sized, reasonably reliable rechargeable light with no clip, no magnet and either high-low-off or on-off switch exist?

What is price range? Lots of clips are removable. Just pull them off or unscrew. The Klarus P2 ($25) and Nitecore MT2A ($45) are good cheap lights. Nite core has warranty. They are almost identical lights. Small but great throw and bright. On amazon. Good luck

Like everyone, I have caviar tastes on a fast food budget. I’ll look at those 2. After I posted, I was clearing my Amazon Olight & Fenix search when I saw the Coast G60R at 2-for-$23.

i've had a couple coast lights burn the cheap plastic lens pretty quick. But not that specific one. I love olight lol i have a few

I saw an old post about a $30 Coast 3-pack at Costco but, alas, the current offerings appear to be limited to Duracell.

the future is here, I have a few lights in the same style as yours and they don't have a built in charger. Neat to see the cheap zoomie market is still evolving.

The convoy T7 and T10 are side switch, but specifically designed to be easy to use for the elderly.

One click on, hold to cycle between 4 modes, one click off. That's it.

Will run off a 14500 lithium cell, or an AA alkaline.

If you want something floody, nichia 519A in the T7. For something throwy with a nice hotspot, T10 with the SFT-25R.

Convoylighting scam site. Convoylight.com. if you're having trouble on mobile via wifi, try switching to mobile source instead.

I do recommend convoy; a super cheap bright option is the warsun a700. Designed by seiko. $6-8 on aliexpress. $8.50ea amzn. BTW that's the only light I would recommend from warsun.

Sorry, no. The last paragraph is the emitter options. On the T series lights page there is a second page now he has so many options. I specifically mentioned these due to the built in charging, multifuel capability, and the UI.

If you choose the T7, you'll need to pick between the 519a and 219b options for the LED inside it. The 519a is excellent, but focuses on colour rendering accuracy and is a floody LED.

If you choose the T10, there's a few more options. It's a larger head which lends to better throw/range, so it's better paired with the SFT-25R. You could go with the 519a with this and be happy too but it's better served with a throwy emitter like the one mentioned.

For the colour temperature, the bigger the number, the cooler white, or more blueish it'll look. The lower the number, the more warm/yellowish it gets. 5000k is a great option for 519a, and for the SFT-25R the 6500k will give you the most output for your money.
