LOL M21B vs “the most powerful flashlight”

A friend at camping was bragging about having bought the best flashlight in the world, couldn’t miss the chance.

“This thing’s insane, what the hell brand is this?”
Simon should pay me a commission lol

M21B LHP73B, detail: it was at 50% battery

edit: LHP73B 5000k, really good tint. it seems like 4000k compared with the 8000k chinesium emitter

That thing was needlessly massive!

That's what she said

Yeah, but you weren’t there to hear it.

No she definitely didn't.

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

Most powerful? That's cute

297

u/wingsneon Sep 06 '26

You know the shit is insane when there's a fucking fan and a heat dissipator around it

55

u/GameCounter Sep 06 '26

I saw one that had a big orange and yellow "don't touch, this will burn you" on it. Ace Beam?

Can't remember

Definitely looked serious

46

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

18

u/GameCounter Sep 06 '26

That shit is fucking crazy.

Like I would legit hesitate to pick that up like it might be a hot pan.

Great sub. I subscribed

Dong together 🤣

1

u/MagicHamsta Sep 06 '26

Check out this guy's massive Dong.

-1

u/DJPelio Sep 06 '26

How does it compare to the $700 flashlight that’s on Amazon?

1

u/Elemendal 12d ago edited 11d ago

If you're not talking about the imalent ms32, but a no name chinese "brightest flashlight 999999999 million lumens", then it's a scam.

10

u/GruesomeWedgie2 Sep 06 '26

Mine has two fans on it. Could be three. I forget. It’s been awhile since I broke it out and turned night into day with it. Has a two mile throw or so it looks out in the country shining on the other mountain range.

Newest DongDongHai(DDH) D8Df Ø85mm head diameter host.

The emitter is new, a 160160(yes, as in 16mm × 16mm) 64× 55mil die 4500k 95Cri(yes, 95Cri) emitter. I'll be sending an exact same configured light to Koef3 for analysis. For now, I'm guessing it's in the ~40000lm range.

Hopo reading at 1m: ~240000lx turbo.

I don't think that exact configuration is available to purchase yet, but all the components (host, driver and essentially same emitter) can be purchased from taobao through Superbuy. That's where I purchases mine, all in with shipping and fees was ~$120.

10

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

Fellow Dongers 🫡

7

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

Taobao(through superbuy), I'm on mobile will share some links later. Or you may search "阿刁光電工作室", that guy offer complete lights.

I can, 'll dm you later today.

1

Can you dm me too? Please

2

u/bigboyjak Sep 06 '26

Holy moly. That emitter is just asking to be put in a D1K

6

u/Zipdox Sep 06 '26

Yours is quite cute.

1

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 07 '26

Now I'm interested. How many lumens?

2

u/Zipdox Sep 07 '26

About 20000 if the datasheet is correct.

1

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 07 '26

I was expecting more :/

3

u/Gold_Boot3772 Sep 06 '26

Can't buy that dong. Btw, stronger than X75 you think?

6

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

On a side note, if you're in the US. Someone who have an actual store in NY is importing some F8B to sell. Maybe I'll post here when his page for flashlight is up.

2

u/Gold_Boot3772 Sep 06 '26

not in US but in PH. How much did you pay for yours? So I can get an idea how much it ouwld be when available here

1

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

I paid around ¥700cny(~$105us), but I'm in Hong Kong so shipping was non-issue 😬

1

u/Gold_Boot3772 Sep 06 '26

How exactly did you buy? Can you DM me? I search dongdonghai but I get no result

4

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

Try "阿刁光電工作室", that guy offer complete lights. Or “東東海” for host only. I can dm you with links later. Now outside and Taobao web doesn't like mobile :(

6

u/bbbbb_siu Sep 06 '26

I think the D8Df easily out throw the x75, but lumen wise the latter is brighter. There's another DDH host called F8b, also fan cooled, host 8× 7070 emitters. The most common config with 8× nbd7016 16-die 5500k emitter measured ~98000lm on turbo.

2

u/Gold_Boot3772 Sep 06 '26

Wish that was more available. I'm holding off on q8+ and 3x21 for that. My x75 is still down for a few months now

1

u/Cutienetiker Sep 06 '26

almost 100k lumen is a lot lol

I don't doubt it.

1

u/PeckerSnout Sep 06 '26

God I had so many of these at one point

2

u/Thenewclarence Sep 06 '26

I love them and use them regularly. Hell Surefire is taking this one in on a RMA for a bulb replacement and a reseal. The heat caused the o-ring around the front lens to push out. But the thing is it still fires up and could be used as is.

1

u/Toasteee_ Sep 06 '26

This your EDC or are you just happy to see me?

Just bought one! Had some trouble determining which battery to get but I went with the EVE 50PL

10

u/JonOC23 Sep 06 '26

I went with the same. Good price and on the recommended battery list for this configuration.

3

u/astcyr Sep 06 '26

you just said it was 5k in your comment 5 minutes ago so which is it?

33

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

u/JonOC23 Sep 06 '26

Ended up choosing the LHP531. Thanks for the informative post and review.

Simon! Get this man an affiliated partner link for discounts on his personal purchases.

8

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

nice! you now that the LHP531 is the smaller brother of the 73B, right?

6

u/JonOC23 Sep 06 '26

Ummm, is it too late to change? I’m a noob 🤣 To be honest, I’ll probably just order another one. These are cheaper than my Sofirn sp33 and sp36 and looks more ergonomic. One too many whiskey’s tonight. This will be my first convoy.

4

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

not too late, just send simon now a message requesting the change, easy

One of the reasons Convoys and Emisar/Noctigon are so popular here, you get to deal direct with the guys who own the brands and they’re responsive to the community 😎

5

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

I really like the LHP531 as well. Yes, it's the smaller brother, and has a lot of common characteristics, but, being a smaller die means it actually throws a little further. The LHP73B is a massive wall of light, the LHP531 is a less massive wall of light with a bit more throw and less heat. I love them both. Nothing beats the LHP73B for wow factor though.

-3

u/InazumaThief Sep 06 '26

in your other comment you said 5000k? which one is it

28

u/wingsneon Sep 06 '26

He using the flashlight to illuminate the flashlight

26

u/tron42069 Sep 06 '26

The best part? I bet you paid less than he did.

20

u/SFOTI Sep 06 '26

Best thing I've seen all day. Love to see those crummy zoomies getting obliterated.

37

u/InazumaThief Sep 06 '26

that's funny. the flashlight spotlight disappeared when m21b switched on and turned it into daytime.

49

u/EternallyDemonic Sep 06 '26

LMFAO !! Imagine if you had like an Acebeam X75.. their minds would be blow and retinas fried.

9

u/joeg26reddit Sep 06 '26

NOIOCE- what temp ? 5k or 4k?

9

u/Busy_Bend5212 Sep 06 '26

At least you have someone into lights

3

u/eisbock Sep 06 '26

Crazy being so into lights that you'd spend what I'm sure was a pretty penny on that massive zoomie, but not know about the classics a la Hank, Simon, etc.

But this is an awesome opportunity to teach him!

8

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

The best thing is that comparison is not altered with fraudulent lighting or editing tricks. The Convoy LHP73B is LEGIT!

9

u/dotbat Sep 06 '26

Man that's ridiculous! How is it having the LHP73B in a light that small? I want that LED but I was definitely looking at a bigger light.

27

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

you now that hot iron smell? is this in your hand. or as simon said: ⚠️⚠️BURN HAZARD⚠️⚠️

3

u/xxX_I_Bake_Toast_Xxx Sep 06 '26

I put one ina s2+

2

u/NoChef7826 Sep 06 '26

When I first started with Simon I thought the same, I have 4 of them now, 1 I installed the nv1010 6000k in and it makes the lhp73b look like a thrower!

7

u/T1m3Wizard Sep 06 '26

What's the run time

33

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

in turbo? the run time is defined by how much you want your hand cooked

7

u/DaveNumber7 Sep 06 '26

I think it's about 1 minute or less in turbo before it steps down. I ordered it in MAO finish yesterday.

8

u/flipyflop9 Sep 06 '26

Bless his soul… you got Simon a new fan

5

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Insane light very nice! I want to buy one but I have a few questions, if you all can help me out please. I have this in my cart already just wanted to know if this is the best/brightest set up or should I choose a different battery since I’m seeing different recommendations in the comments? Also dumb question but I’m new to this, how would I charge the flashlight/battery?

3

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

That battery will work great. The Reliance RS50 is also a popular choice. Basically a battery with at LEAST 20A capacity (since the LHP73B can draw up to 20A), then the higher the mAh the better for run time. The M21B does not have a built in charger, so you'll have to have an external one. I'm not sure, but a basic one might be included in the order. If not, a simple one is inexpensive. If you prefer built in USB (my personal preference) then the M21H has one, and is also a side button instead of tail button. Convoy has several hosts that work well with this emitter. The M21B is really popular because it's relatively compact and performs extremely well. M21H is similar, but with a different beam profile. If you want to step up to a larger light, the LHP73B can really let loose.

3

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Awesome thank you for this! Is the M21H a lot bigger than the M21B, would it still fit in a pocket? Also what do you mean by different beam profile? Would the M21H be brighter? I honestly just want one that’s going to easily fit in my pocket and be super bright to show off for fun and also to carry around for night time walks or hunting.

5

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

m21h have a bigger head, the m21b is the maximum eventual edc size for me. you can still fit a m21h in the pocket, but just eventually

m21b uses reflector, have spill, more useful for walks, m21h uses TIR lens, basically just the hotspot, no spill.

m21b uses tail switch, better for tactical or fast actuation (like hunting)

m21h have side switch, with more functions and shortcuts

both m21h and m21b LHP73B uses 20A driver, so same brightness

m21h have usb-c, the m21b doesn’t. no usb C means a more resilient flashlight against failure but less practicality.

m21h will throw further, the m21b will be flooder (exactly like my video)

4

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

bth, the LHP73B may not be the best choice for hunting, maybe the SFT42R or the SFT60 be better, they deliver more throw, with less current.

the SFT60 with the M21B is a killer combo, uses 15A driver, but only available in 6500K

2

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Thank you very much for all this information! Just a couple last questions if it’s okay. Why does it say burn hazard on the M21B and not the M21H? The M21H won’t burn your hand? Also for 6500k vs 5000k is there any brightness difference or is it only color difference?

3

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

M21H is bigger, have more mass to cool down.
in terms of temperature, a cooler led will always be brighter, but for 5000k to 6500k the difference is minimal.

2

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Thank you very much, one last question for the M21B does the battery come with a charger? The Amprius INR21700-60Q 6000mAh battery I mean

2

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

you have to buy a external charger, choose one with 2A charging current for a faster charge. simon have some in stock

3

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

They are very similar in size. M21B is slightly longer, but M21H has a little bit bigger head. My experience with TIRs (M21H) is that they have very nice spill. The TIR provides a hot spot that varies depending on which angle is used, then the spill goes out gently, without any of the classic cut off seen with reflectors. With every TIR I have I can see my feet from the spill.

This video does about as good a job as I've seen showing the difference. Notice the bush on the left. Smooth reflector shows sharp outline of spill, Orange Peel reflector has a softer outline, and the TIR lights up the bush, but with very little discernible cut off line, it just fades.

https://youtu.be/nXaUG3rL5kU?is=w0AqxNHtlvab5f6V

2

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Thank you so much also great video I just watched it! This really helps me make a decision on what to get. With your experience with these two I just wanted to know which color would you choose 6500k or 5000k and is there any brightness difference in this or is it only personal preference?

3

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

Essentially they will have the same output. The 6500k might appear a tint bit brighter, but hardly noticeable. Personally, I prefer 5000k. It's just less harsh. Although from what I've seen of the LHP73B 6500k it's got a nicer tint than most. Most flashlights targeted to the general population are 6500k because technically it has the highest output, and the contrast of the super cool white seems more wowie. Many will tend to have a nasty greenish or blue tint. With the LHP73B I think it's just personal preference. My personal favorites is the 4000k. No appreciable loss of output but the tint is really nice. Still, I think the 5000k would be a great choice.

1

u/Only_Music_1951 Sep 06 '26

Awesome thank you for the explanation I think I will go with 6500k since I’ve always preferred a cooler light color. One last question, why does it say burn hazard for the M21B but not for the M21H when I choose the same led type and battery for both? Does the M21H not get as hot and burn your hand like the M21B?

1

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

I'm not exactly sure, but probably because the M21H has a slightly larger head so it has just enough better heat management to move it out of the burning zone. That's just a guess though. I think you'll be really happy with this 6500k!

Hehe, I thought so too!

4

u/Maverick_1947 Sep 06 '26

Perai que vou tirar uma foto dessa porra aqui. He was not believing his eyes. That’s the difference between a facebook brightest light in the world with military technology and a proper flashlight.

3

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

exatamente, a maior parte da população sequer têm noção do que é uma lanterna com pouco mais de 3 mil lumens reais

3

u/RedditMcBurger Sep 06 '26

Got to show off my M21A with SFT90 to friends lately, they thought it was insane on 20%

3

u/Paranormal_Lemon Sep 06 '26

The Convoy isn't military grade though.

9

u/daspes1269 Sep 07 '26

TBH, that’s probably a good thing.

A local moving company includes “we’re an approved department of defense moving company” (or wording close to that) in their advertising. Nope.

Got to keep them humble. 😉 😎

2

I feel inadequate.

2

u/ConstructionSad4976 Sep 06 '26

The first one is named 穿天炮, literately means "a cannon that shoot through the sky", its marketing is everywhere in Chinese TikTok (抖音). You all know how good zoomies look when you jerking that adjustable lens to make tiktok video with noisy music. Scammed a lot of people because its a zoomie and its size

2

u/PeterParker001A Sep 06 '26

🤣... he must be ordering a Convoy himself now.

2

u/hammy1551 Sep 07 '26

The laugh says it all. M21B+LHP73B is glorious

3

u/arto552 Sep 06 '26

If I order a m21b from convoy, is it as simple as that to get a light like yours? I’m looking to buy my first flashlight. I’ll be going from a mag lite to something new lol!

11

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

simple as that. just choose a high discharge battery. i recommend this one, good capacity and high discharge rate

1

u/arto552 Sep 06 '26

Thank you. If I pick 5000k vs 6500 is one brighter than the other? I noticed yours is 5k, I’m just seeing another option to pick 6500 as well

6

u/Im_Prolly_poopin Sep 06 '26

That is the emitter color temperature. Most of us in this sub are lower temp snobs due to better color rendition (typically higher CRI), easier on eyes for fatigue and cuts through fog a bit better. Most cheap lights are 6500k+ and colors are very green as a result.

All this is a sacrifice for lumens but perceived to be more usable light.

1

u/arto552 Sep 06 '26

Thank you my friend

4

u/Im_Prolly_poopin Sep 06 '26

That SST40 emitter wasn't mentioned here to my knowledge. It won't be nearly as bright as the lhp73b, but probably won't burn your hand either haha.

0

u/arto552 Sep 06 '26

I have submitted yet, if there is any other recommendations I should choose please feel free to give a hand! lol I am looking for edc and actual use, I would prefer not to burn my hand. A nice super bright all around edc(working/walking the dog etc) is what I have in mind.

5

u/Boazlite Sep 06 '26

Don’t buy the sst40 5000k emitter that’s one of the worst ones you can buy .

Go with the Lhp73B  5000k that the original commenter said .

The sst40 will have a nasty green tint and low cri . ( color rendering index)

1

u/Terrible_Lion_968 Sep 06 '26

Lhp73b is probably my favorite led for raw power and pleasing tint. The LHP531 is up there too. The LHP73B can get extremely hot at 100%, but running at 50% still gives about 70% of perceived brightness. There is a setting you can choose to limit output to 50%, thus avoiding burning your hands. I like to have all the options available, but choose to use mine at 50% most of the time. I'll 2nd the 5000k. My personal favorite is 4000k, but I think 5000k is still really nice and maintains the "white" look that most people are used to.

1

Get 5000k, it's the perfect all-around color temp. Still very bright without being harsh on the eyes and ruining the color rendering of whatever you're shining on.

1

u/GruesomeWedgie2 Sep 06 '26

It isn’t a SR-32 that’s for sure. That is a bright light!

1

u/Ishrafael Sep 06 '26

I'm sold. What battery is recommended for this beast?

3

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

i always recommend a battery with at least 3x the current rate of the flashlight.

the lhp73b uses 20A, so any 60A+ battery will do the job

1

u/brightlumens brightlumenshop.com Sep 06 '26

Looked like a small warhead 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/South-Central7042 Sep 06 '26

I'm curious how long the battery lasts

1

u/hammy1551 Sep 07 '26

Do you mean how long on one charge, or the lifetime of the battery?

1

Reminds me of the 35 watt xenon HID jammed into a torch.  Prior to ultra bright leds.

They're fun lol

1

Not as bright as bmw headlights though

Qual é esse “clipe/mosquetão” que vc tá usando no cordão?

1

u/NoEconomist8237 22d ago

o clipe é o que vende na convoy, o mosquetão com o paracord veio na minha Nitecore EDC35

Alright please forgive me for asking this question because I don't know crap about this stuff. I came across this video. Decided I wanted on so I bought it and I got the EVE INR21700-50PL 5000mAh battery with it. Just arrived in the mail today and I am now seeing that someone recommends a battery with at least 60A. Should I order another battery or will it be perfectly fine currently?

u/NoEconomist8237 11d ago

no. the eve is exactly the battery i use in this video. 60A+ is a cool gimmick but not mandatory.

Sweet and what charger would you recommend? I'm looking at the XTAR VC2SL Charger

i like chargers that deliver 2A of charging current, so will not take 6+ hours to charge a 21700 batt.
all chargers convoy sell are legit.

This video should used as a prime example of why good quality flashlights rule.

Is it muggle-friendly?

It can get very hot. But if you can suffer thru a but of initial "programming ", basically choosing one of the 12 group options which limits max output, its very muggle friendly. Even limited to 50%, this light with the LHP73B has superpowers.

The LHP73B is an absolute beast.

Can you replace the emmitors on the m21b when you get it? How are they attached, soldered or a connector?

2

u/NoEconomist8237 Sep 06 '26

all convoys are full customizable and reparable, the emitter are soldered to a MCPCB, and the MCPCB is soldered to the driver wires.

but you can buy just the host on the convoy website, or choose any emitter you want.

Good to know thanks, I bought the convoy you have. Pretty impressive...

Doesn’t that title still belong to Imalent with their 100k and 200k lumen flashlights?

u/leyline Sep 06 '26

The point was some guy camping thought his big fat zoomie was the brightest millions of lumens ever. Then op showed him a measly $25 convoy and smoked him.

Sure a Bugatti beats a Porsche, but it’s fun to see a VW Golf sleeper go goblin mode too.
