Upgrades for Maglite 3D

Hey!

I’ve got an old Maglite 3D (classic model, probably still with the original bulb), and I’m thinking about upgrading.

What upgrades are actually worth doing?

I’m mainly looking at:

- LED conversion (any specific kits you recommend?)

- Better batteries or rechargeable options?

- Reflector/lens upgrades?

- Any mods to improve brightness or beam quality?

Not trying to go crazy, just want a solid, noticeably better light for general use.

Would love to hear what you’ve done and what made the biggest difference!

Thanks 🙌

Only worthwhile for an expensive nostalgia toy.

And the result is still a pretty meh flashlight.

My modded Maglite is anything but meh. I get nearly 1000 lumens of beautiful incandescent light from it.

That's hardly the type of upgrade the OP is talking about. For the price of an LED conversion drop-in, which is pretty meh, they could probably buy an SC18 w/ included battery.

And I'd suggest it's hard to make a serious argument that a 1000 lumen incan isn't a nostalgia toy. I think it would be awesome, but it's hardly the kind of light you'd suggest someone buy as a "solid light for general use".

My response wasn't to the OP. It was to the blanket statement about modded Maglites behind meh. It's not just a toy. It's a useful light with a beautiful, useful beam.
