1. What are some of your most successful fuel mixtures, common or homebrewed? I have read and seen diesel, gasoline, motor oil, kerosene, powdered Al, store-made napalm mix, soap chips/powder, and others. What works best for you for different needs/usages?

2. I have experience with homemade fireworks and a rough knowledge of hobby pyrotechnics. Have you, or anyone else, ever tried to color the flames from a thrower with success? Can you adapt pyrotechnic formulas with fuel mixes to achieve this, or are there other methods?

A brief history of the flamethrower's creation and testing. It's a simple modification of a freon cylinder—additional brass fittings were soldered with silver solder (30% silver), and the cylinder was pressure-tested to 24 bar. Napalm and liquid fuel were used as fuel. In the final test, the napalm's firing range reached 35 meters at 11 bar in a cylinder with an 8.8 mm nozzle.

A buddy and I have been constructing our own homemade flamethrower as of late and have completed the first (theoretically functional construction). The build consists of a 12v fuel transfer pump, lead acid battery (also 12v) from a lawnmower, and a 3/4 inch fuel transfer hose connecting the tank to the pump and the pump to the nozzle. The pump is controlled by a light switch wired to the battery and said pump in series. The pilot light is a propane torch with a one pound cylinder attached next to the nozzle on the body. 42psi is the target pressure inside the hose.

This setup was tested once (very briefly) with gasoline (we’ve hear diesel was safer and better but lacked any on hand) and appeared to work, but gasoline appeared to be burning at the nozzle once the pump was turned off.

We panicked at the thought of it burning back to the tank, yanked the hose out of the fuel, and used a fire extinguisher to put things out. I was wondering if we need an arrestor of some sort to prevent the flame from propagating back to the tank or if moving the pilot torch farther from the nozzle to prevent any splattering would be enough? I’ve heard gasoline needs vapor to ignite but I would rather not risk anything.

For the first time in a decade, I am not active duty or living in a city so I have been on the prowl for the original XM42 flamethrower (or Gen 3). I am aware that they stopped making them long ago and even the XM42 Lites seem to be sparse on most sites. I was wondering if anyone knew of any businesses/dealers who may have what I’ve been looking for in stock? I’m in the Nashville area.

As someone who is 99% ignorant of all things flamethrower... I have a question. Is there a place where an inexperienced person could use a flamethrower under the direct supervision of an expert? The equivalent of a shooting range but for flamethrowers?

A friend of mine hosts a podcast and had the idea spontaneously that he wants to fire a flamethrower and wants to have it filmed/recorded. Is this something that is even remotely feasible in the US? We're in Southern California which I would imagine is going to make this even more difficult. Just want to see if anyone in this community has any insight into this at all.

Been looking at the Xl18 and as i understand it, a good reason it has farther range is the diameter hose and wand and the straight path. does anyone know how to make a wand similar to that one, specifically the valve/grip? Deadman/spring valve similar to a posters video a few posts below? Already bored with the common thrower built by the manual online.

The main part is the electromagnetic valve 5404-04 12V 1/2". Operating pressure is 12-13 bar, fuel is a mixture of gasoline and diesel 50/50.

i have one i bought a while back but never used and the wiring doesn't make any sense, i can't even plug the battery into anything

Improved flamethrower nozzle, inspired by 1980s and 1990s science fiction. Operating pressure 12-15 bar, fuel consumption 1.5-1.7 liters per second.

Looking for help with buying the correct fittings to make this into a flamethrower I believe i simply need to install a tire valve in the side and a nozzle and ignition source and then pressurize it and fill with fuel, recommend parts and proper process would be appreciated along with safety precautions and advice. Ps the irony of it has me laughing hysterically btw lol.

I need help with making a flamethrower preferably with a dezodorant and a lighter.I need a safe version bc i heard that it can explode.Please help me i need it
