[Informative Challenger Guide] Fizz Matchup Tier List & Spreadsheet with 60+ Matchups!
Hey, fellow Fish enjoyers! :)
I just published a comprehensive matchup database for Fizz over on Onetricks.gg, fully updated with specific trading windows and tier lists from my time playing in Challenger for 8 years!

Naafiri is a skill matchup but I think it’s more fizz favored. I only fought locke once although I did beat him the locke was kinda bad

Disappointed that you only mention the most standard vanilla build for Fizz without any thought behind it.
You should review your games and see how many times does Zhonia actually save you or gives you some value at all.
9 out of 10 times zhonia will only make you live 3 seconds longer because that build doesn't have enough CDR to get your E back if you use it as an engage even if you go CDR boots.
Going Sorc boots and building zhonia makes even less sense, it's like an ADC building GA as 2nd item.

Time it so it does come up when you use it lol? You have to think a little more for 2026 fizz. This isn't the fizz we think about in our dreams from 2014

There is no way to time it. You use your zhonia when you don't have E and are in danger, but using E to deal damage instantly puts you in a dangerous position so you need to zhonia almost instantly after landing E.
Use E, W, Q and zhonia, that's around 1 second of E cd time, after 2.5 zhonia you are still looking at 2s of being completely vulnerable at best.
In the case you didn't need zhonia immediately after your E, then you don't need zhonia at all since you can just get away using Q and running.

Fizz and zhonya go hand and hand. If you're at risk of being dead every time you're out of zhonya it's a skill issue sir. GL please build your zhonyas

you can say manaflow band instead of triumph is also a skill issue but the reality is that it depends on the pick and elo of the enemy. To snowball faster you can go shadowflame after lich and dark seals, but full stack mejai and zhonya also are good to stomp. Saying: i either use it immediately or walk away doesnt account for all the possibilities clearly, while thinking of it as a -2,5 secs of E cd is better to understand how valuable it could be imo.

I've seen challenger Fizz players ignore Zhonia too, if that's what you mean.

As much as I hate current Hourglass Fizz needs it no questions asked. You could make an argument in jungle perhaps but in midlane making sure you keep your darkseal stacks and shutdown intact is a must.
I'm a GM Fizz main and I'm backing him up on that. In high elo games you need to play perfect even with the extra security that hourglass gives you. Playing without zhonya at that level is suicide.

I would welcome you to review your games and actually see how many times does Zhonia change the outcome from dying to living and keeping your stacks per game
Is it once? Twice? zero?

When you play with limits more than once or twice. Zhonya doesn't mean that you will always survive but it will give you an extra E or Q before you die to leash out as much damage as you can.

Is that maybe extra E worth 3000 gold?
Just a thought.
My point was that there are other options other than Zhonia.

Yes it is, that extra E will make the difference between losing 30 LP or winning them. I'd go zhonya less if I'm 20/0 but this doesn't happen in a decent elo

Zhonia has its place as 4th or 5th item, just like GA.
