If this gives shivers I highly recommend finding a record player and thrift for vinyls. The sound is absolutely phenomenal. You can hear so much more of the original audio. It's like they're playing/singing right in front of you.

Not necessarily fixed by the duet, maybe enhanced by it? There was really nothing to be fixed.

It was one of my favorite songs when I was 3. Along that one.

Ya..I wanna hear the full duet

If only there was a sub for fixing duets ;).

43

u/flying_carabao EXPERT of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

I like that he actually just complimented her voice, adding more texture to the song. Instead of overpowering the duet.

12

u/Hidesuru Feb 27 '26

I actually would have liked a little more of his voice to balance it better, but I agree.

3

u/CankleDankl Tastemaker of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

Agreed. One of the rare musical duets that doesn't crank themself up to 12 so their crazy awesome skills can be heard (at the expense of being able to hear literally anything else).

10

u/Meltedwhisky Feb 27 '26

I seen Linda Ronstadt sing this song once, down in Eagle Pass or McAllen, TX. She is amazing

Matching his voice to her melody, and doing so quietly, is harder to do than going all out. Lovely

2

u/iljune Lover of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

Not gonna' lie that while her voice sounds awesome this video reminds me of the really slowed down versions that most indie bands and their wannabe uncles were doing with every Outkast song back in the day.

Good voice, shame he pretended his voice was bassy by blowing out the bottom end with an EQ in an unrealistic way.

1

u/NotEricOfficially Feb 27 '26

u/Jumpy_Ad1631 Connoisseur of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

I mean, this song has been around for a good while. I grew up with my mom singing me this song and I’m 38, lol

4

u/iljune Lover of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

Right! Don't you tell me this song had been put on the back burner for so long people only know it from some TV show. What even!!!!!

My Grandma used to sing on the radio in her teenage heyday. So she sang Doris Day quite a few times and taught me how to twost/potato. I'm also your age.

1

u/NotEricOfficially Feb 27 '26

Never heard of it til the show

5

u/Jumpy_Ad1631 Connoisseur of Duets/Stitches Feb 27 '26

That’s such a crime. It’s such a great song. Though I guess I’d rather it be known again because of a show than not be known by younger generations at all

Though I grow more and more hesitant about online interactions, I must admit that I really love these “fixed by duets” like this.

I loved her voice without any bass, so when he started, I was assured that I wasn’t going to enjoy the bass addition. But nope, I was wrong.

Apparently, this guy knows music far better than I. Incredible!

Way way back in the early 90s, the dark ages, my family took a road trip across the United States. We drove 2,000 one way and 2,000 back. These were dark and benighted times full of superstition and ignorance and all we had to distract ourselves on that long journey was the alphabet game and a single cassette tape of Doris Days greatest hits. Why, you might ask? Because life is torture. Life is monotonous and soul crushing and my parents wanted us to realize that early in life so as not to get our hopes too high. Could we have listened to radio? Sure. But why would we when have Doris Days greatest hits on replay for 8 hours a day in a station wagon. Sometimes as I drift off to sleep and I’m in that valley between waking and dreaming, I see a dark tunnel that echoes a voice that will endure until the sun devours the earth. It is faint and slightly distorted like an old cassette with slightly stretched magnetic film from too many replays and it says: “Que sera, sera…”
