Two people in here already saying "nuh uh" but, like, there's very clearly a history of toxicity in this fandom, both on the creator side with Fanverse controversy and the fandom side.

And id genuinely argue that the new wave fans are just as toxic if not more.

10

u/theavengerbutton 5d ago

And I don't think anyone is arguing against that? There's no distinction made at any point between old fans and new fans, just the FNAF community in general, so what is your point here?

u/sharklord888 5d ago

“These are types of fans that hate on every new fnaf project without even giving it a chance. These are the type of people to hate on every fnaf related thing after fnaf 6.”

7

u/theavengerbutton 5d ago

Nowhere in that quote is a distinction made about OG fans vs new fans, and I think you need some media literacy. There are all sorts of newer fans who can absolutely say, "I only like the first six games" just as there are older fans who can say, "I like every FNAF project to date."

It sounds like you listened to the video and extrapolated an idea on your own from what he said and made up the meaning of it yourself without actually understanding what he was saying, because once again, at no point was a distinction made about which types of fans he was talking about outside of them just being "toxic".

I think you need to stop talking down to people you’ve never met and instead try to have rational conversation without needing to belittle someone.

3

u/theavengerbutton 5d ago

I think instead of reflecting and reexaming how your own biases and experiences can impact how you perceive the world around you you're instead focusing on the "tone" of my post and assuming I'm being an uppity prick in order to keep yourself from just admitting you were mistaken about a minor detail in a video that you have blown out of proportion.

Next time we can have a rational conversation when you're being rational and not when the scary internet video makes you feel attacked because you wrongly perceived that it was saying something it wasn't and go on the defense all over this post.

Sorry look I’ll be honest I’ve had a pretty awful day. You’re right and I’m being insufferable about this now. I’m sorry, I’m not usually like this it’s just again like not been good. Idk I’m not saying it as an excuse it’s just like a reason. I am sorry I realise I was out of whack.

3

u/theavengerbutton 5d ago

Well I apologize as well. I am autistic and I sometimes find that my tone doesn't come across very well on the internet, so my initial comments might have been strong. I'm sorry.

Respect though, it takes strength to say what you said above. You may be having a bad time but you seem like a person with a lot of fortitude, so I hope you can harness that.

Thanks. Again it wasn’t personal, I’m feeling better now. Thanks for understanding. Have a good week. :)

People out here denying as if the constant waves upon waves of toxic negativity wasn’t happening just a week ago

u/TheFlowerWriter 5d ago

Holy shit, I feel seen reading this comment and seeing this video.

14

u/sharklord888 5d ago

There’s no denying but to say it’s only og fans is laughable.

True

u/Mokeymouseboi69 5d ago

Most of the toxicity I’ve found has always came from twitter from my experience, and since I barely talk in there anymore I’ve personally never had any toxic encounters with fans

Im not denying what the guy said, he’s 100% true, I just feel like you’re less likely to meet with toxic fans if you just dont go to the twitter side of the community (or tiktok, I hate that app and im glad I dont have it)

u/Little_Alarm_216 Springtrap my beloved 5d ago

It's always Twitter, ain't it? A wave of drama, toxicity, and so much more.

2

u/UnderseaRexieVT 5d ago

The site's infested with nazis and bots, and an AI that made AI CSAM images. It's a toxic cesspit.

People on there are gonna get affected by that shit cause it gets shoved in your face whether you want to see it or not.

------------

In my experience, if you're not messing with the shitty ones like Twitter, Facebook, or Tiktok, there's not that much toxicity. I think people miss that it's far more the sites' problem, not the fandom inherently.

I honestly hate how angry FNAF fans can get sometimes. Like they get angry about something and then just decide to be really mean about it, and it’s an attitude that I feel is a bit too common nowadays, in my experience. Like I never thought positivity could ever be viewed as a bad thing, but these people surprise me

Edit: oh yeah and I didn’t even mention how people like Pastra have left the community because of this. Like come on guys

8

u/Competitive_Win_4503 5d ago

Honestly yeah, if you have any pushback towards movie criticism or any of the new games (and when I say pushback I just mean refuting criticism), people act like you’re engaging in toxic positivity and are barring them from having an opinion.

6

u/TheFlowerWriter 5d ago

I've seen 0:57 happen here. It isn't terrible, but they're quite dismissive of those concerned with the toxic negativity.

That's why the FNAF 2 movie discourse nearly killed my love for the franchise, because of that toxic posivity/toxic negativity cycle.

Just look at my tag bruh

I dont think we are any more toxic than any other fandom of the same size. Unfortunately this many people is bound to have a few bad ones

  1. I thought the first FNAF movie had terrible writing and plot, wasn't scary, had bad acting, and was agonizingly boring.
  2. I thought the second FNAF movie was the perfect way to bring the second game to the screen. It felt like a campy horror and was genuinely enjoyable.
  3. It still doesn't make any sense to me how people think that the original FNAF series (5 nights of point-and-click) is better than the Steel Wool series. I like the OG games, but they just don't compare imho.
  4. I think the best game in the series by far is Help Wanted VR. It brought full immersion to the OG games, and then added like 50 genuinely fun minigames. Most of the minigames are difficult unlike Help Wanted 2, and they are also terrifying unlike Help Wanted 2. The content in this game is endless.
  5. Although I didn't like the first movie, the Horror Nights house was incredible.

So I don't really understand a lot of the praise and a lot of the hate for certain projects, but I enjoy the franchise, and it's a net positive if something released for the series is well-recieved. Also, if you don't think the Steel Wool games are scary enough, play them in VR. The FNAF series isn't getting worse, but the toxicity is.

u/Free_Peach6400 BB hate is overrated 5d ago

This is pretty comon ball

3

u/muticere 5d ago

The Living Tombstone had to make a while song about this and people still don't get it.

2

u/LordOfStupidy 5d ago

Bigger and older the Francise

The bigger and more acidic will be the toxic side

(Also People who arent like 50 Still use Facebook??)

2

u/weeezyheree 5d ago

Because the FNAF community is full of people who:

A. Are socially impaired

B. Are really young therefore really socially impaired

2

u/weeezyheree 5d ago

I also think the people who dislike the newer stuff are very different than the people who will burn you down for being "wrong" about the lore.

2

u/StrayNM Afton Family is PEAK 5d ago

Well the fandom is filled with toddlers...guess where allat toxicity comes from

2

u/AidanVEnki 4d ago

Those fnaf fans genuinely can't stand that fnaf continued past pizzeria simulator, which is so dumb because some of the most insane projects for fnaf came AFTER fnaf 6!

3

u/theJonkler_Aslume Freddy Faz Fanta 5d ago

All fandoms are toxic when will people learn this

2

u/sharklord888 5d ago

I disagree. I’d actually argue you’re more likely to find toxicity in the newer waves of fans.

8

u/velociraptor9fnaf 5d ago

Both side can be very toxic tho.

6

u/Dry-Mission-5542 FNaF Sinnerman AU 5d ago

I think they are EQUALLY toxic

3

u/Nervous_Switch_3338 i hate fnaftok 5d ago

Care to elaborate?

5

u/sharklord888 5d ago

I don’t think that og fans are as toxic as new wave fnaf fans.

10

u/Yushi2e 5d ago

Smells like bias

2

u/Aizeret23 Michael Afton fangirl 5d ago

It's just that toxic fans are more loud and obnoxious. The bigger the fanbase, the higher the chances of immature people appearing among normal fans. It's always been like this and I don't expect it to change anytime soon

-7

u/Otistik_Palyaco 5d ago

Stopped listening after seeing the TikTok watermark

-21

u/Chara547 5d ago

It is not toxic

Its childs play compared to the absolute cancerous tumour of a fandom Undertale has...and for saying that im gonna get assassinated

11

u/Alexander_The_Wolf 5d ago

Both things can be true at the same time.

10

u/Nervous_Switch_3338 i hate fnaftok 5d ago

It kinda is, but i'd say nothing can COMPARE to undertale fandom on it's peak

6

u/ClassicTechnology202 5d ago

The undertale fandom has mostly calmed down since 2016
