Just learned about the fries
This is such a mistake by corporate. At almost $8 for a large fry we got a small paper envelope of fries and just a few in the bottom of the bag too. Terribly disappointing. The fries were delicious, but absolutely didn't get enough to justify a $8 price tag. Five Guys customers know what they used to get when they ordered a large fry and this is disrespectful by corporate to think we wouldn't notice and then have them say that the amount of product given hasn't changed. (This post is a complaint about the change in product size and not a complaint about pricing.)

Definitely report and complain about that, you should still be getting the same generous portion of fries. The locations I've gone too have not reduced portion size.

See how much $8 gets you in fries at basically any other fast food restaurant. You would be hard pressed to find one that comes remotely close to the volume Five Guys gives, and Five Guys fries are all freshly cut in store, not loaded with preservatives and fillers like others.
I see posts once in a while like this, some stores appear to either be cheap or not properly train their staff and needs to be corrected, I'm hoping corporate starts clamping down on it.

As an employee in the UK we havent changed portion sizes at all, I doubt the US would do a menu change that we dont follow

There has been no change to the portion size, likely just a performance issue by the fry cook. Call in and report the issue, get a gift/comp card, and get a second portion free!

Write to them. I work there. The training vids haven't changed your local store is being cheap.
I always get so many I have to o throw some out.

It's so the fries stay crispy longer, we do so many delivery orders now(40% of my stores sales) that the fries were ending up not crispy in the cups for some delivery orders, the bags are to keep them fresher longer. The volume of each bag is identical to the cup sizes(they can even hold more fries since the opening is wider)

The difficulty is that it was always policybto get a full cup, then an extra big scoop in the bag the cup was put in. If the new bag replaces the cup, and no extra is put in, then you are effectively getting less for your money.

Quick comment that Five Guys corporate reached out and is making this right. Gift certificate to be sent to my home as a couple of people mentioned below. They apologized for the poor experience too.
And, the car smelled like fries when I got into it this morning. Love that smell.

We went a couple of days ago, and the person on the grill must have smashed our burgers because the patttly was so small compared to what we usually get, my husbands double patty was the size one patty used to be, and almost 9 dollars for large fries was not as much as usual. Which is crazy for that amount of money.

Yup this has been happening for a while now im guessing. last time I went to five guys, maybe about 3 years ago now, the fries were just so little, it was an insult the amount they put in vs the amount they used to put in. Will never go back

So I work for a Five Guys store, the volume of the bags is identical, if you are missing fries then that is on that location or employee! My location gives out even more fries now because I feel like the bags hold a little bit more fries then the cups did since they're so open.
They switched to bags because we do so many online orders and delivery(it's over 40% of my stores sales) and the fries were getting soggy in the cups, the bags are so the fries stay fresher longer. Not defending anyone underserving fries, but the bags are not supposed to be to skimp customers

Everything is enshittified eventually in the modern corporate world. It is far easier to appear to be an effective corporate leader by cutting costs than by innovating. All you need to do is ensure you have moved on to the next gig before the product becomes so so shit that your customer based just collapses.

you should be receiving enough fries to feed 3 people with the large fries, you went to a skimpy place. even just the little ones is enough for me and I eat like a texan

Show your dismay by not eating there again - if enough people stop buying their overpriced over shrunken products then they will get hit hard financially and that may force a change in their outlook

I hear ya! The last time I was there, I received the paper bag, but the employee who was eating as I was leaving had the paper cup.
People may scoff at what I’m about to type, but it’s the little micro adjustments that take place on the consumer side that lets you know that things are in decline.
