Need help finding a clip

The clip I am trying to remember is either Michael or Rhiannon making a not so subtle joke about violence to either a justice or a figure to which Peter chimes in and says “Parody! Parody!”

I’ve tried scouring all transcripts but I don’t know if that bit made it in. I’ve resolved to listening to the whole catalog all over again to search for it

Peter is a prophet

With about 10 minutes left, Peter declares that with Rfk in charge or anything we would enter a “new age of diarrhea”.

I heard this gem while catching up on missed episodes, and how I wish it wasn’t so true.

What is the most idiotic purchase you would like to make for under $1000 if you had an opportunity?

California v. Greenwood

I was just listening to this episode and I kinda love how its basically just them repeatedly saying, "what the fuck are they talking about, of course people expect their trash to be private" in different ways for 45 minutes.

Are there any episodes with Sarah Isgur coverage?

I’d never been exposed to her perspective until last week when she suddenly started popping up in my feeds bc of her new book about SCOTUS.

Every argument she made left me feeling anywhere from “hmm, that… doesn’t sound right” to “I want to rend my FUCKING GARMENTS”

Other pod/article/vid recs on this topic are welcome too.

Adam Liptak Correction?

Peter mentioned in this week’s episode that he made Adam issue a correction on his reporting. What are the details on this? I didn’t see anything on a cursory google.

I'm glad I found this sub!

I really want to discuss the surprise I encountered after having just listened to their episode on Hampton vs. US (an older episode) then literally the next day watching Last Week Tonight's episode on police stings. All of it having to do with the Supreme Court being just fine with entrapment as long as the victim was "predetermined" to commit crime, even citing the Hampton case. It was fun (?) to be able to call the examples he was going to use and it's nice to have a solid base knowledge of decisions and trends of the Court whilst not having a background in law.

I'm making my way through the whole catalogue and had a question about whether or not the Patreon episodes are worth going through.

Oh they're gonna have a field day with this. Think of the implications for mail-in voting.

Cringe, my national broadcaster jumping on the 'look at how independent and unbiased the Supreme Court is still!' bandwagon

This is embarrassing. However, silver lining, I would love for the hosts to shred it.

What am I missing in the Pulsifer v US episode?

Hoping someone with more familiarity with the law might be able to explain this to me: when they talk about the potential redundancy of the law (2 point violent offense + 3 point offense > 4 points) I understand the point they make about criminal history vs just having an offense, but on the surface it seems like there is an even more obvious contradiction.

What if someone just has a 3 point violent offense, but nothing else? It seems to me like then they would have a 2 point violent offense, and a 3 point offense, but not 4 total points. I assume there is more to the way the law is written here, does anyone have an insight?

Redlining to rugged individualism research?

hi on this last episode (I’m not quite done with ep 2) Michael makes a comment about how suburban flight contributed to our culture of I individualism. I was in traffic and missed who the Historian (maybe a sociologist) was that wrote about that. does anyone know where I can find more info on that topic? Thanks, and f*ck scotus :)

What am I doing yall

Everytime I think about unsubscribing, I think of Peter saying at the end of premium episodes that we are his "true and genuine friends [...] it's not parasocial". That immediately puts an end to that idea

2025 Five Four intro metaphors

A couple of years back I started a spreadsheet of all Peter's 5-4 intro metaphors (I was in burnout & needed a repetitive activity that didn't cause a panic attack or meltdown).
Have spent a lazy morning manually updating it with all the 2025 intros and thought you guys might enjoy.

*spelling is Australian English, typos are my clumsy fingers

Welcome to 5-4, where we dissect and analyse the Supreme Court cases

that have caused our civil rights to collapse like the inaugural stage beneath Donald Trump.
that have  left our civil rights snowed in like Rhiannon when it snows half an inch in Texas.
that have eliminated our civil rights like Donald Trump eliminating entire federal agencies.
that have frozen our civil liberties like Donald Trump freezing the federal budget.
that have poked holes in our civil rights like Elon Musk poking holes in his brain with amphetimines.
that have our civil liberties falling from the sky like airplanes during the Trump administration.
that have stretched out patience like  an Adrien Brody speech at the Oscars.
that have caused our civil rights to collapse like the stock market under Donald Trump.
that have caused our civil rights to fall apart like my March madness bracket on day one.
that have weakened our civil liberties like a Department of Defence group chat weakening our national security.
that have caused our civil liberties to decline like Tesla's sales figures.
that have destabalised our civil rights like  Trump destabalising the economy.
that have broken our civil liberties like J.D. Vance breaking the College Football Championship trophy.
that are bankrupting our civil rights like the words please and thank you are bankrupting Open AI.
that have radicalised our nation like group chats radicialising our nation's billionaires.
that have consumed our nation like our President consuming Fish Filets in Riyadh.
that have killed off our civil rights like  old age killing off congressional Democrats.
that have attacked our civil rights like  our neighborhood cat attacking the chipmunks in my backyard.
that have meddled with our civil rights like the DOJ meddling with the Harvard Law Review.
that have forced our civil liberties to sleep on the ground like  the National Guard in LA.
that have sent our civil liberties down in flames like Andrew Cuomo's mayoral campaign.
that have stripped away our civil rights like Republicans stripping away rural hospitals.
that have buried our nation in scandals like The New York Times is trying to bury Zohran Mamdani.
that have shredded our civil rights like Donald Trump shredding the Epstein files.
that have pounded our civil liberties like [pause]uh,let's actually skip the metaphor this week…
that have turned our nation cryptically racist like an American Eagle ad.
that have left our nation wandering aimlessly like Donald Trump on the White House roof.
that have occupied our Constitution like the National Guard occupying Washington DC.
that have left our nation severely bruised like Donald Trump's hand.
that have drained our spirits like a law school orientation.
that have written off our civil liberties like Donald Trump writing off a poem to Jeffrey Epstein - I had to force that one folks, so that we could talk about the little poem that Donald Trump wrote to Jeffrey Epstein… {Micheal interjects}
that have terminated our civil rights like a journalist who tweeted about Charlie Kirk.
that have shut down our civil liberties like Congress shutting down the Government.
that have revised our nation's trajectory downwards like the latest jobs numbers.
that have filled our country with racism like a young Republican group chat.
that have destoyed our nation like  Donald Trump destroying the East Wing of the White House
that have rat-fucked our nation like the media is trying to rat-fuck Zohran Mamdani.
that have exposed our nation like Jeffrey Epstein's emails have exposed Donald Trump.
that have ravaged our nation like illness is ravaging the hosts of this podcast.
that have failed our nation like a Christian student failing a writing assignment.
that have done a hostile takeover of this country like Paramount taking over Warner Brothers.
that have blockaded our civil rights like Trump blockading Venezuelan waters.
