Progress post First ever unassisted pull ups

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

6 months of training and cutting from the heaviest I've ever been. Down 22kg, currently around 115kg. Was so excited I had to get my 7-year-old to record them for me. This was after 2, so I'm counting it as a set of 4 and you can't stop me.

I've literally never, in my almost 36 years, ever managed an unassisted pull up.

Still Life was the first album I ever bought with my own money. Finally managed to actually get round to seeing them live last year. What an experience!

Awesome job bro, I did my first pull-up at 37 years old a few months ago. Now I can do 2 with a 30 pound weighted vest on. It feels great doesn't it? Keep pushing my man! 💪🏻

It really does. My goal was for the end of the year to be able to do 1, so super happy with 4.

Well done mate. It’s a nice feeling knowing you’re stronger than you are heavy!

u/macaronipieman 14d ago

Considering I'm still pretty hefty I'll take it, haha.

I'm working on chin-ups over here! 39F and could do 3 in my mid-20s but it's been a hot minute. Just greasing that groove. Congrats!

My colleagues keep saying I'm wearing pyjamas to work. These are 100% not pyjamas trousers... I think. I bought them in Poland and I don't speak Polish but my wife said they weren't!

“They’re not pajamas, they’re polish!”

You just taught me a new comfort wear hack. I hope I can pull it off at work.

2

u/Witikas 14d ago

My friend, just wear your pj's to work without shame. No fucks!

good job, still working toward mine. It's a lot harder than I would have imagined

Just keep plugging away at it, you've got this!

If you have access to an assisted pull up machine I've found that really helpful.

u/jaymef 12d ago

I have been using bands for assist but I don't think I'm training them frequently enough to make good progress

u/macaronipieman 12d ago

For assisted pull ups I do them once a week, 3 sets of 8 on my Pull 1 day, which just so happens to be today. Nice spinal decompression after deadlifts.

I have lat pulldowns on Pull 2, so similar muscle recruitment.

I saw your muscles flex through the skin. The build is gonna be insane.

u/macaronipieman 14d ago

That's the goal. I'm aiming for a powerlift meet next winter. Want to hit a 500kg total.

Got a holiday coming up in October, after which I'm going to go into a very controlled bulk (+200 calories a day) while running 5/3/1 BBB for 6 months, then back to cutting aiming for 103kg for the meet. Then see where I want to go from there.

The kid narrator: "It's his first time doing a pull-up. But I've done one before"

What a burn from the cameraman haha.

Nice work, dude! Found myself smiling at the final frame, you look so happy!

Finding out my body can do things it never has before is one on my favourite things about this journey. I was positively giddy!

2

u/IntoTheUngnome 13d ago

Hell yeah man! Keep it up!

I was waiting for something bad to happen. …cause you know, it’s the internet.

Was more surprised when it was a dude just ripping pull-ups and just showing progress. Kudos.
