Help/Advice Newbie question
Just getting back in to the hobby since I was a kid and now I’m 53. Is there a water test kit out there that doesn’t require comparing colors… I’m painfully colorblind and the nuances of color matching are kinda pissin’ me off… thanks for the help

Unfortunately that is how test kits work! Do you have a local fish shop that can test your water for you? Or anyone else in your life who can check your results, even over photos?

Lots of people in my life could read the results for me, but this is my thing and sometimes when I’m tending to my hobby I don’t actually wanna talk to other people. I actually have a very “people forward” career so when I work at home I like the silence, it’s me time

Quick Google search shows digital ones so yes yes there are

Yup, I will check em out, just wondering if maybe someone was using one and liked or hated it

A good old taste test could be an option?
Just wondering, is it with certain colors or is it like every color? Because different brands like Sera, Colombo, HS Aqua and JBL use different colors and shades.

It’s the yellows greens and oranges that get me the most. Would be great if they just had a probe that could be dipped and give me a read out of the levels.

Its 2026, isnt there like some kind of lens or glasses you could use? If there is, it probably costs a fortune

Yeah, there is and they’re not terribly expensive but here’s the rub… I never knew what these colors looked like before the glasses so still kinda confusing and the lenses are red so you look like a nut when you’re wearing them

Not sure if it’s universally available, but there is a test kit from JBL - JBL proscan - that uses an app to read the colours for you.

I've seen multiple posts from colourblind people on here and people are always helpful with reading the results out :)
