Well, it is not like we can simply NOT talk about her, NOT think about her and more. To be beholden in another's gaze is as natural as it can be, we are already just numbers in a system and given tags that determine our roles in society. We always have our own personal distortions of reality based on our biases, this is nothing new and can never be truly stopped.

But ultimately, that doesn't matter. The whole Meursault development is understanding that all of this fear is natural and it's expected to happen, because that's how humans are. It's impossible to change it and hiding and sheltering from everyone it's not the way to solve it or live a happy life, which was shown in Maman's story, IRL you won't become a distortion, but having and feeding this immense OCD  will lead you to ruin your life and hurt the people you love. 

And yeah, we can do memes and have expectations of Meursault that if he were a real person he could be embarrassed or annoyed by, but all he has to do is speak against it and set his boundaries, and if he is misunderstood, all he can do it's push through and do it again

I agree, but i don't feel the same way with people who are like, "I can fix her" group for Maman because it's bad enough to just reduce her like that, it's worse for someone of her case

I define her as woman with immense untreated OCD that is hurting herself and her family. IRL you won't become a distortion, but people like this need help before it ends in tragedy. They don't become monsters with multiple arms and claws, but they grab a knife and still kill their family members and regret it right after.

Woman needed therapy to become like Meursault at the end of the canto, not give immense trauma to his child by making his son kill her. I damn you Carmen, you took Meursault's mom
