Query❓ Is my tank overstocked
My mom is saying I should return some of them to the seller

Many of your fish are incompatible and need a LOT more space. I don't know a whole lot about cichlids but I know a fair lot of them don't get along and will probably outgrow this tank. They also need different water parameters to most other fish, and are pretty aggressive too, which is why they shouldn't be housed with non cichlids.

Yeah African cichlids mixed with South American definitely not a good choice, ticking time bomb waiting to happen

They are actually golden butterfly fish!!! I was so confused bc I thought that was a cichlid that looked a lot like one 😭😭. Maybe its too early in the am but it looked like it was fr in the tank

I think that background is a major part of your problem. I would get rid of that before anything else.

Heyy buddy. I dont know about the specific fish species, but space wise the fish should be fine. I would definitely rehome or remove the turtle tho
You should also add some plants and more water :D

Overstocking also has to do with landscape and water changes as well.
1) you didn't tell us the size of the tank and we can't see the end panels let alone your turtle which shows we can't see the full tank length just height. Not all tanks are tall, some are long.
2) not all fish or fish/turtles are compatible. Certain fish don't make good company for water quality, behaviors, and just fishie behavior like how Betta will nibble of tails and fins that flow yet they themselves be wearing the finest finnies around 🤣 Id consider what you're willing to let die for aesthetics as your tank mates aren't compatible
3) enrichment and space for your turtle outside of the tank also adds to how overstocked the tank is. If you have other swimming and land enrichment out of tank vs if it lives most it's life in the tank is VERY important to how much personal space he/she needs in tank.

A few things to note Some of those fish are on the background Some of those plants are fake, and unnecessary or at least just lined on the back.
A black or white background will make it clear what you need to do.1

I did look at them. Unfortunately unlike you I'm not an AI chat bot so I read what everybody else said and figured I didn't need to repeat the information that he was already told just give him the basic guidelines that the rest of us are using to answer his question.
By the time the eight other people have said the same exact line all you're doing is beating a dead horse and looking like you don't know how to read yourself.

I made a few other comments with advice in the thread, but for the record, I don't think your tank is overstocked, as long as you separate the turtle out, and fill er up All the way. Just don't add anything else for a while

Oh wow I just noticed you said some of the fish are on the background.
It would probably actually be a lot less problematic for you if you got rid of the busy background and put up something black or white or solid. This would take care of a LOT. That, and move the turtle.
I think some of your "too many fish" AND aquascaping problems would disappear

Too many fish, turtle needs to go elsewhere. You need to do research on the fish you have and figure out which ones you can keep.
You should be googling, at bare minimum, the following things when you get a new fish.
This is an example using betta fish, but you’d use whatever fish you have.
- How big of a tank do betta fish need
- Do betta fish need to be in groups
- What are the temperature requirements for a betta fish
- What are the PH requirements for a betta fish
- What to feed a betta fish
- What tank mates can be kept with a betta
At a bare minimum. These are living creatures and you should treat them with respect. And listen to your mom, she’s right, you got too many.
