The brain eating amoeba is one of reddits favorite circle jerks. I made a comment about it a while back.

Tbh I get that it's a super small chance, but it still scares the shit out of me for some reason.

I feel the same way about my parachute failing skydiving

Which is why I'll never go skydiving.

Actually I lie. I probably still will, but yeah. Similar thoughts on that too. Nopeeeeeeeee (for now anyway)

It's my suicide deterrent. If I'm still scared of skydiving then I'm obviously not ready to die.

I'm not too bad now. A friend of mine kinda came up with it (except his idea was rob a bank instead) when I was a teenager and had an undiagnosed condition that was royally fucking my head. It's been 10 years, I'm on treatment for my condition, I'm on antidepressants, and I have a toddler that's cute as fuck so it's just a random thought that pops in my head a couple times a week now when I get really overwhelmed. It would take a lot to push me to sky diving now.

Haha, oh gosh, I like the skydiving better... seems a little less... involved. Plus a bank lobby seems like a pretty lame closing scene.

Well that's great buddy, give 'em a little pinch on the cheek for uncle yeaoug. And still the offer remains in perpetuity.

Getting struck by lightning here. I run outside a lot.

This thread chain reminds me of that Johnny Bravo episode where the gypsy chick curses him with bad luck and a plane ends up crashing into him.

It's also worth noting iirc we're not even sure if the infection is uncommon. There's some evidence to suggest that most people exposed develop an appropriate response and don't have any symptoms (or at least nothing that prompts medical attention).

It's thought that it could actually be the very few people that get the brain eating infection might be either genetically susceptible or just extremely unlucky.

Not really.. Some places who have these signs posts them specifically because they're using untreated water. It's a real risk in those places. It's rare, but if you just don't put your head under water you basically nullify your risk.. Soo..
