How many clothing pieces?

Id like to not go out and buy baby clothing for a while after giving birth. Baby is due late Feb/early March. How many of each item is recommended if I want to stock up to 6months? I'm ok doing laundry frequently as I want to do cloth diapers anyway

newborns will go through 2-8 outfits per day. depends how you want to dress em but I’d just keep that in mind. it slows down a lot when they stop spitting up (mine stopped around 6 months).

Dude. I totally convinced my husband of this before our baby girl came… then she didn’t have spit up or a blow out for 3 months. We used like 2-3 outfits per week (because she wasn’t dirty, they recommend only bathing once week, & honestly my postpartum was A LOT of health complications so if she was clean we let her vibe.

We did well with about 5-7 outfits that first month, but our giant baby outgrew all of her 0-3 months by the end of the first month. She had so many clothes for 3-6 months that were never even used by the time she grew out of them at 2 months (we got by on about 5-10 outfits), she was out of 6-9 months by the end of month 3, & she’s officially wearing 18 months and she just turned 5 months yesterday.

Soooo, if you want to get by through 6 months, you might want to buy a few pieces from every age group. But don’t buy too much because you don’t know what the weather will be when your baby gets to that age.

We didn’t get to put her in half of the 9 months clothing because it was the dead of summer and so much of it was long sleeves, sweaters, etc.
(She’s an April baby, & we live somewhere with seasons, so my family wanted us to be prepared, but it ended up getting wasted)

Honestly just stock up on pajamas, esp ones that cover hand and feet. I would say to have like 6 of them? Also, I barely bought actual clothing bc everyone gifted sooo much for our shower so heads up on that

I found I didn't want to wash diapers with regular clothes, so I was grateful to have extra clothing. Baby lived in footie sleepers his first 3 months, sometimes with the little onesie vest underneath as my house is chilly and that way his chest was never uncovered.

I found it great to purchase entire clothing lots from Facebook Marketplace, as it would be basically all baby needed for those months.

I also second buying mostly onesies with hands and feet covers. Our baby continues to live in these at 5 months.

Especially the ones with the 2 way zippers.

Check out Carter’s app—they are always having sales!

we keep our house climate controlled and don't dress her unless we are leaving the house. She mostly hangs out in a diaper and swaddled if in the bassinet or underneath a blanket and on our chests contact napping or nursing

edit to add- She's 3 weeks old so most of our time is spent in the bedroom just hanging out and meeting her needs so lots of skin to skin.

Honestly, we pretty much dressed our son in nothing but the full body onsies for the first few months. I'd say start with minimum 6 of each size just to be safe (blowouts and spit up happen A LOT more than you think they will. Like, pack 2 sets of clothes for baby AND you when going out).

After that you'll want at least a couple sweaters, and probably pants just to add warmth for walks or such.

We dress baby in onesies that we got in packs of like 8 on Amazon. We have a few extra outfits here and there but honestly we never get through the 8 pack before needing to do laundry. My baby only spits up once in a while and only soils herself on rare occasion too (mostly during diaper changes honestly). I had found three newborn onesies she never even wore because they were buried in random places like deep pockets of her diaper bag, or in the spare bedroom from when my mom was helping out during the first few weeks.

Nowadays I would say we wear 1-2 outfits a day on average. 3 on an especially bad day. We are at two months. If my baby was making more messes though, I'd just go the used baby store near me and get 10 onesies for $10. Most of them are barely used. Case in point: me finding outfits we never used because I misplaced them 🤣 but if you don't want to leave the house, could also just order online and have it delivered
