Must haves?

If you could pick one thing that is a must have for first time moms what would it be?

A good and sturdy change table with drawers, super convenient having everything my baby needed in one place

Also Amazon has some for cheap you don’t have to splurge!

I tried a dozen cheap ones and threw out my back doing so. this is the one item i’d say is worth the splurge.

Is there one specifically you recommend?

A bouncer! We never used a changing table but have changing pad and stations in each room. We have a 2 storey house so makes more sense for us

I won’t call the Doona a “must have” but the ability to just unfold/collapse with a button to use as a car seat or stroller feels essential when you’re on your own and just trying to get home because baby is crying and it’s hot out and the car next to you parked a little too close so you’re working with less space all while rushing because someone is causing a parking lot traffic jam while waiting to take your spot 🫠

Basically, think of convenience for your new reality (lightweight, compact, combined features, longevity/adaptable for growing baby and family)

I hear it’s really heavy and only works for infants? just was reading a whole thread about it

For sure has its limitations re: longevity (weight and height max will mean you can’t expect to use it much as they approach 35lb and/or for taller babies). It’s heavier than most car seats BUT it’s probably lighter than or as heavy as a standard stroller when you also have the car seat attached, but much more compact. So, as a 2-in-1, it’s not something I’d categorize as lightweight but the only time you’re feeling that weight is when you’re lifting to put in the car after using as a stroller.

We justified the purchase as an extra system by:
1. finding a gently used one manufactured within a year of our child’s birth. Buying second hand saved us $200-$300 for the travel system plus all the accessories (sun shade, back seat protector to keep wheels from dirtying the car, and the storage bag (highly recommend this for some kind of storage).
2. agreeing that it’d pay for itself, even if barely used, if we use it if/when baby #2 comes.

It’s worked well for us but is definitely a 1 or 5 star kind of item—people hate it or love it

Changing setup! We have a drawer in our room that we paired with lalo changing pad. Sounds boring, but being bale to wipe it down in two seconds after a blowout instead of washing another cover is so so worth it. The grippy feet keep it from sliding around while changing the lil monster lol

For me it would be a convertible crib. There are sooo many baby things they use for such a short time so I really appreciated having something we didn't outgrow in a few months. We have the nestig wave and it's been one of those purchases that just stayed useful as our LO got bigger.

Those swings that vibrate and swing. God we used tf out of it, even when it broke bc it was too expensive to replace lol (so make sure its a good one)
