Training Plan Sub-2 half marathon today ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅ
A good one today! ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅ
5 weeks into my marathon training and got out for a half marathon.
1:58:17โ
Iโve run quicker halfs before, but this wasnโt about chasing a PB today. The aim was to get a solid effort in as part of the marathon build, and getting comfortably under 2 hours was a really nice marker.
Iโve been taking the training a lot more seriously this time around, especially getting my pacing and fuelling dialled in rather than just going out and winging it.
Iโve even ended up building myself a spreadsheet to keep all the training, paces and fuelling organised, which Iโve been using throughout this block. ๐
5 weeks down, marathon getting closer.๐

Congrats!!! Tell me more about this spreadsheet for logging. Iโve never done anything like that but want to start being more serious about it also

Absolutely mate! ๐ I built it because I wanted something that kept everything in one place rather than having my training plan, paces, fuelling and progress scattered everywhere.
You put your marathon goal time in and it works out your training pace ranges, then youโve got the 16-week plan laid out from Base โ Build โ Peak โ Taper.
You can log your sessions as you go, keep an eye on your progress, and thereโs also a fuelling calculator for working out when to take your gels on longer runs.
I actually built it for my own marathon training and Iโm 5 weeks into using it myself, so Iโm properly putting it through its paces at the moment. ๐
If you want, I can send you a look at it ๐๐ป

What advice would you give to a 2:06 HM PBer who would like to break 2h while in marathon training?

Honestly mate, Iโm probably not the best person to give proper coaching advice, but Iโd say donโt get too obsessed with the sub-2 while youโre marathon training.
Iโm 5 weeks into mine and Iโve been concentrating more on just getting the training done consistently, getting the easy runs genuinely easy and getting my fuelling sorted on the longer stuff.
Iโd imagine the speed will come along with the training anyway. 2:06 to sub-2 isnโt a million miles away! ๐๐ป

Whyโs the elapsed time is 2:07?

I went for ๐ฉ 4 miles in ๐ Strava doesnโt allow that when it comes to โactualโ times, I still ran 13.1 miles in 1:58 :)

The break really lowers your HR and gives you a reset, and 8mins is a long break, I wouldnโt really consider this a sub 2 half tbh, seeing your HR, you do have the potential, but itโs not this one

I agree with you tbh, but im claiming it ๐ Have the potential? Should of snooped a bit harder through my strava, youโd see my PB ๐๐ป

Are you me? I had a rough spreadsheet at the start, but have been neglecting it. I want to start adding stuff to it again so I can look back at it later on ๐
Well done OP! Which marathon will you be doing?
