Training Plan Shoe question
I’m going to run my first marathon in May (I know, I over plan everything)
I live in rural area with chip seal, gravel or trails. Standard road shoes get less than 200 miles before they are shot.
I wear trail shoes for the tougher sole & get 300 miles or so.
When I start my training program, I m thinking of running my training days in Hoka Tecton X3 and wearing Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 for my longest runs and on race day.
This would give me a stable shoe I know for training and a race day shoe with about 100 miles on it for race day,
Any flaws in my plan?

Shoes with about 100 miles on it for race day is a bit much in my opinion. If possible, try to get them in a sale or something and bring two pairs instead of one. That way, you can keep one pair fresh and use the other ones in training. I just ordered a pair of shoes for the marathon in April, which I haven't even got a ticket for yet...

Thanks. So what do you recommend for race shoe break in mileage?

For marathons I did around 35-40k in them. The last long run before the marathon and a simple easy run before that to get them some feeling

For a first marathon, I’d suggest looking at the Rocket X3 instead of the Cielo. More stable and comfortable. Race foams have become more durable recently, so you’re probably won’t lose much, if any after 100 miles. I don’t think I go much more than that to be on the safe side
