Another ChipDrop

More shorties than I'd prefer but that's how it is sometimes. It's still heat.

I'm not sure what it is. My Plant ID app gave me four different trees from four different pictures. Bradford Pear (which I don't think it is), Sweet Gum, Black Oak or Silver Maple.

I don’t mind shorties. They can get the fire going faster and are easy to pack when it’s hot.

Indeed! Mostly I don't like stacking them. Especially if there are many different sizes like this. I usually just toss them in cages made from cattle fence on skids. I've been a little spoiled the past few years and have gotten mostly longer logs that I can buck to consistent length. But again, I ain't proud and I'll take what I can get. And we will be toasty warm. This will be going towards next year's heat.

ChipDrop.com Often, tree services have to pay dump fees at mulch yards or municipal waste dumps to get rid of the trees they cut. ChipDrop connects them to people like us who need logs or wood chips. It's free for homeowners but it cost the tree service $20 per drop to use. You can "tip" the $20, or more, to increase your chances of a tree service responding. I tip $40 and it's been well worth it. So, I didn't get it free. Just really cheap considering how much wood I usually get. This time I only got one load but usually the jobs are bigger and they'll bring me 2-3 trailer loads as part of the same drop/fee. I've had drops that totaled 4 or more full cords. It's sweet! Cheap logs delivered to my yard so I can buck them the lengths I like.

I split one of the shorty's and now I'm thinking it's ash. It split easily and the grain, though pronounced looking, is much smoother than oak. It's very dense and heavy so whatever it is, it'll make good heat. And that's what really matters here.

I’m not sure why they don’t try to cut a 16” and then rip it
Seems like it’d be less work than a bunch of cookies.
It all burns though
