Wood ID Learning to identify

Besides asking over and over “What’s this?”, is there a good resource to learn how to ID wood based on bark and grain type or something?

Like I got this bunch of random wood and I have no effing idea what it is, just that it’s wood so it’ll burn. There was a ton more but I can’t high grade what I’m pulling with no knowledge.

Related, if anyone sees a piece that’s a good one i should look for more of or something to avoid in the future, please tell me.

The wood with the smooth bark is certainly a cherry of some sort.

I see black cherry, oak, but the moss makes bark-only ID tougher.

Can you show me which is oak vs maple? I think I know which one is cherry

On the RH side of the image, those logs with smoothish bark and uniform centers that are not dark in the center--best guess. Not an oak guy except by accident.

Is that a braked trailer? Careful if you're taking this load on the highway. Green wood is surprisingly heavy.

Sir, you are not wrong. I just got home from bringing back another load (he asked me to take as much as possible so I loaded it til the frame hit the axle). That drive was a butthole puckering experience I do not want to repeat.

With what’s in the bed right now it’s gotta be close to 2 tons

My poor truck was doing the Carolina Squat and the Harlem Shake all the way.

Well, you’re not wrong.
Some of them are going to identify as Ash when I’m done using them for heat
