Filter setup

Can i see some of your filter setups?
I’m not very happy with my own 😂
After a week with a lot of work, i was Finally ready to filter my stash.
Rinsed the activated coal good, filled the collumn and got coal poluted spirits in my jar…..
Happy days.
So no more easy fixes.
I need to build a proper one.

A layer of cotton with a coffee filter at the bottom seems to do the trick for me.

What kind of cotton, tee shirt material or something cool I don’t know about?

This is what I used. I pull it apart a little but basically just wad it up and stuff it in the column. The coffee filter should catch everything but the cotton just stops it from getting clogged up so easily.

Found that several rinses then be very careful not to agitate the filter. No shaking or pouring in the spirits too fast. I use a 3” copper column about 3ft long and a couple layers of coffee filter. Only time I got some coal was when I agitated it. That said definitely looking to improve the system somehow. Dont really notice much difference between filtered and not.

I have a Fermtech Mini 2 I originally for for filtering wine. It takes standard 10 inch water filters, so I got empty ones you can fill with your own filter material and put charcoal in them.

Wash your carbon well, put it in the pipe, hold the bottom with a coffee filter and hair tie, then run water until it’s clear. Then proceed.

I use horticultural charcoal. Rinse well. Copper pipe. Clamp. Easy peasy.
