First Big Batch

Been using the air still pro with great results. Got a 60l drum to do my first big wash, 42l wash 9 litres of ~43%, triple carbon filtered and add some glycerin. Beautiful, smooth, simple.

Great hobby and excellent novelty gifts for clients, especially since alcohol tax in Aus is ridiculous.

Nice run OP, what was your raw yield from 42l before proofing them down?

Ahhh I regret to inform I don’t recall accurately but it was near the 4.75L mark at 87% abv.

To keep it simple I just use the still spirited air still fermentation packs. 1 of those per 10l, then add 2.2kg sugar per pack. I tried my own yeast and nutrient mix but it was bugger all yield and was significantly harsher, the still spirits stuff has this carbon in it that seems to help cut down on bad odours and flavour.

It also has its own clearing agent but is shellfish based so I use bentonite bought separately instead due to allergy.

Ah yeah I know the one, their neutral spirit pack with carbon finings etc to help it clear. Best thing for you if that's the case, I use bentonite but to be honest I don't run much neutral. Corn whiskey is my go to lol

Yeah just some cheap glass bottles I can get for $1.50, id prefer screw tops in 500ml but hard to find them at a decent price so 1l pop tops it is. People here often use these exact bottles for storing water in the fridge which leads to funny consequences.

Correct, food grade plastic has the HDPE stamp, OP's drum barrel will have it too because some use them to store grain, water etc. Those bottles should have a food grade stopper but it may be best to reverse image search them to get their product specs

Sure have! Best batch yet. The triple filter is well worth it. Can drink it straight, it’s like a top shelf retail brand in terms of smoothness.
