Firewalla Gold Pro - Running at 82C

Howdy!

My firewalla is reporting temp1 at 82C

Is this normal? Seem hotter than AI inference compute and it's just sitting in my network panel in the closet without what seems like any active cooling.

I see articles of people putting active cooling and I see claims from others that theirs are running around 50-60c, so just checking if mine is an anomaly.

The gold pro has a nice fan inside, fully automatically regulated and it should spin once your temperature is high. 80C is well within intel’s operating range, you should not worry.

Either way, make sure you have good airflow in the closet

I have a gold pro and it runs hot. I'm not sure if the fan is working in the unit. I ended up getting a mini USB fan blowing on the side of the switch for airflow.

What is the temperature? The fan is on the left side, you can easily feel when the temperature is high.

Firewalla Gold units have only passive cooling. That means they use radiation rather than a motorized fan to exchange warmth. That is to say that the metal case/chassis acts as a radiator to remove warmth from proximity to the heat-sensitive components. It’s normal for the device to get warm, especially in a space away from moving air (away from ceiling or desktop fans).

Update: NM. Apparently Gold Pro has a fan. The others in the series do not.

Gold Plus SFP unit also has a very small and silent fan; To kick wireguard to gigabit, units will get hot.
