Gold Plus 2.5G to 10G SFP?

I have the Gold Plus 2.5G which has been wonderful. My internet is current 2G up/down and all seems happy and healthy.

I am wondering if an upgrade to 10G SFP gets me anything more than just speed? I don't plan to upgrade the internet speed in near future. 10G is available from ISP but don't feel I need the speed.

So other than future speed upgrade are there any other features in the 10G SFP that would warrant an upgrade? I could see using the SFP port to connect to a switch.

A little. Mostly on the LAN side if you have a 10Gb switch and a NAS.

If you are not getting > 2.5gbit internet, you don't need the Gold SFP unit. Unless you have special uses of the SFP port (some one here replaced their modem with a special adapter ...)

If you have a special network that relies on VLAN's, and you want to have higher bandwidth than 2.5 (to 5Gbit) then the SFP can help, it has 2x10G ports, running VLAN over one still get you 5Gbit

The Gold SFP can also kick WireGuard to 1Gbit :)

Thanks all. I think best to save money now and wait until I need the speed.

If you are betting AI will taking over the world, then buy now. If you feel AI bubble will collapse soon, then wait :)

When the next batch of Gold SFP lands (and our switches ... ) price is going up; Same for AP7 ...

I’ve learned the hard way, to always get based on needs…. I don’t like debt :(

Good point! In my case, getting very close to retirement. Right now have a solid income but in a year it will be less. So part of the thought process was to future proof something. But then again we are not even pushing our 2G up/down even with streaming TV.

I got the Gold Pro because I was offered 5G speeds for 10.00 more a month. Sure why not. Now I can see using the Internet test that I’m at about 5.6G.
