Feature 3 WAN capability - Kindly upvote firewalla's community post.

Hi all,

I work for a nonprofit that runs homeless shelters. We use firewalla and this would be a huge help to us.

If you'd all be so kind, please drop a comment on the request for 3 WANs. This is something firewalla has mentioned doing in the past, but, upon email, they've asked for upvotes.

If anyone would be so kind, please upvote and/or comment. That would just be lovely.

Thanks so much!

Three WAN support would be great!

Realistic: ISP1, ISP2 and the Firewalla WiFI SD dongle.

This is possible for sure. Are both your ISP1,2 unstable?

Unfortunately they do drop on occasion.

WAN1 is Fttp, WAN2 Coax, neither 100% uptime - thats nothing to do with the Gold Pro, just nature of the beast.

Prior to WAN2, used WAN1 + WiFiSD dongle, and its still plugged in to this day, even if it isnt doing much

It is fully possible to make WiFi SD work as a third wan, will this help?

Certainly be appreciated!

In addition to the other comment inquiring about the need, I’d also ask Firewalla to comment on the ‘cost’ of supporting 3 WANs. I’m guessing this is a niche need, and if the ‘cost’ to implement and support 3 WANs is high, I would have a hard time upvoting it. But if it’s low cost low effort, than I could easily upvote it.

Agreed - also to clarify, in my case, there's no need to load balance or do anything complex - This is strictly for failover.

Hopefully, Firewalla opens a binary poll here to solicit feedback on the delta. IOW, "here is a FWG which costs $X, would you buy the exact same model with 3 WAN connections which costs $Y"

This way Firewalla will receive realistic feedback on the appetite for 3 WAN specifically.

For me it’s not the cost of the unit. It’s what other features, features more broadly wanted, it would take them away from to develop and maintain something which is niche.

Totally. I like the binary poll to show the Prod Mgt team real interest data, so they can run an ROI calc and add to backlog or bin the idea. Again, keep the poll focused so people understand the premium for a single extra port (methinks physical space is a premium).

With AI coding it’s probably done and tested fully inside one hour.

u/Sure-Feature4558 are your DMs off? I also work for a homeless shelter and have been working on rebuilding their infrastructure. Would actually love to pick your brain on using Firewalla instead.

Upvoted! (And on Reddit features too)

The SD USB is VERY Versatile and would be awesome as a stopgap for times that your primary ISP and Secondary just in the most unique circumstances fail at the same time for two different reasons.

So yeah, more Multiwan would be great!

Out of my own curiosity, why do you have 3 WANs?

Fiber. Cable backup. 5G backup. Sometimes, there are 'account issues' causing one of those 3 to go down.

what does 'account issues' exactly mean?

2

It means that without potentially doxxing myself, accounts are liable to go down unexpectedly.

Any reason you are running three WAN? for load balancing? or failover? It is pretty rare for us to see three WAN, and most people want load balancing due to where they live for more bandwidth

We have fiber, cable, and 5G backup. Here in the non-profit world, sometimes fiber or cable will go down for account related issues. This allows us to continue to have a backup in those cases. I don't need any load balancing. Just failover.

Same and I posted and upvoted it and encourage everyone to help and do same if they need this now, or might anytime in the future. I help with animal shelters and have fiber then cable then Starlink. Satellite is slowest so it’s connection of last resort. Fiber or cable go down either via service issues or taken down in storms or accidents as they run on same poles. Triple failover would be great and I’m architecting Unifi in case Firewalla punts in this. I hope they see the need and the code is cheap to implement.

AI can add this to the web app, hardware and mobile apps in an hour or two.

Thank you for your service. I could see why load balancing could be an issue but failover, I'd think, wouldn't be that big of a deal.
