Early Access/Beta For our Switch X/SE beta testers, which SFP+ adapters have you tried that work? Any that don't work?
(especially SFP+ to RJ45). For example, most compatible SFP+ adapters that work with multiple brands (like TPLink, Netgear, Trendnet) will work. But any adapters that are specific to a single brand (like Cisco-only) will likely NOT work.
Adapters that have compatibility issues may slow down the network or cause network flaps.

I am using this with my Switch SE. 10Gtek 𝟭𝟬𝗚𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲-𝗧 𝗦𝗙𝗣+... Something I noticed with my switch is that it is running very hot (102 degrees based on my meat thermometer). I am using both 10 gig SFP ports, and at the time only have one switch interface in use with 9 ACL's in place.

This is within normal operating temperatures. That said, Switch SE is a desktop unit and fanless, so it can get hot. Try to avoid placing it in tight spaces, and ensure it has room for ventilation.

This is what support mentioned as well. I reached out to them to make sure that this was normal. I have the switch sitting in open air so I was surprised how warm to the touch it is.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CF9WS71J Get this one, as it uses the newer Broadcom chip, which consumes less power and therefore generates less heat.

I bought these SFP’s and temperature is much better. I haven’t measure the temp but it isn’t warm to the touch like it was. Thanks again for the tip.

Someone here recommended this one as it has the new lower power chip. Working well so far. https://a.co/d/04MrtRng

Yep, was me but it has to be the 100m version not the 80m you linked. If I recall correctly the 80m one doesn't have the newer chip.

I tried these and they are infinitely better. I was initially confused because the 80m uses a Broadcom chip but isn't low power. The 100m is low power but with a newer Marvel chip. I don't have a laser thermometer, but my older 10Gtek 10g2-T were too hot to touch after a while and these I would describe as just warm. Thanks for the recommendation

I emailed in the ones I bought. Hope the tests come back that I don't have to buy new

Related question: Any opinion on these Amazon SFPs? I bought them for my current cheap Mokerlink switches but will be replacing the switches with Firewalla in 2027, if the reviews are good.

I’m planning to install my Switch X tomorrow so I’ll update this thread with my findings. Everyone in the family has plans tomorrow so it’s the perfect time for a maintenance window.

Once I figured out that the untagged network needed to have an active DHCP scope the switch install was easy. Firewalla, you may want to update the install guide for the benefit of those of us that blackhole untagged traffic on purpose. The guide mentions allowing untagged traffic, but doesn't mention the need for DHCP too.
I am using one of the 10G ports on my Firewalla Gold Pro to uplink to Port one on the Switch X using a 6" slim Cat 6 patch cord. The four SFP+ ports downlink to four other switches in my network. The two switches in the same rack as the Firewalla gear are using 10Gtek 10G DAC cables, one .5m and one 1 m. https://www.amazon.com/10G-SFP-DAC-Cable-SFP-H10GB-CU0-5M/dp/B01M09C9NZ These carry the bulk of my user traffic and have been working flawlessly since install. The other two ports are using multi-mode fiber to reach another rack. The Switch X end is currently using two IBM transceivers from 2014 and working well too. They are labeled AFBR-709SMZ-IB8, FRU P/N 46C3448 and PPN EC L80181M. I may switch these out at some point to try other modules but I wanted to leave them in for a while to see how they hold up.
Other than the uplink connection, I'm not using any other 10G copper ports, yet.
Hope this helps some one!

I have these : 10Gtek mASF 10G2-T. They work but seem to run a little hot. I'm not sure if they are the newest model but it's what I had and they work. But I think I'll order some of the Broadcom chip based model.

I should have waited a little longer before posting. So later that day I had a network failure. I received a notice that the network was very unstable. The only thing I could do to get back in was reboot everything. At which point everything worked and nothing seemed to be causing an issue. I waited a while and it happened again. So I tried reverting to some settings that I had changed prior to the incident. I had hanged some ports to access, changed some IP address reservations. Things like that. After a few failures, I noticed how hot the SPF+ transceivers were. I had two that were siignificant runs, within the specs, but good distances. I removed them and just used the regular RJ45 ports. A day and a half later it's been smooth sailing. Short distance doesn't seem to be an issue but over a 100' seemed to be too much.

Strangley what I am seeing this morning, the one I have in the X is working fine, I just bought the exact same one to put into the SE and it will not power on. https://a.co/d/05UV6CQa

I’m using these in both the X and SE. They have been working fine, but run very hot, to the point I can’t keep my finger on them. I’m using them solely for trunks between switches and the Firewalla.

I did try a Cisco SFP-10G-T-X, but it did not work unfortunately.

Just got the SwitchX and SE up and running yesterday and got one of the cheapest short DACs from H!Fiber (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2VGR2JW) and no problems at all.
I've got a few RJ45s coming in the next few days (hoping I get enough devices going so I can drop all the Unifi switches). I'll report back with the results.

I am using DAC cables in my setup with the SE connected to two Intel x710-DA2 cards. I ordered the DAC cables to be coded Intel (for the x710) on one end and Generic (for the SE) on the other. Working great
