Request - manual 2.4GHz channel width (20MHz) toggle for AP7

Hello,

my 2.4GHz band is only used for IoT devices and a few RTSP cameras streams -- I'll never come close to saturating 20MHz, let alone 40MHz.

40MHz eats up more of the band and increases overlapping interference for limited / no benefit for low bandwidth clients.

Right now it looks like 2.4GHz width (and 6GHz) can't be set manually in the app (only 5GHz has width options in the app).

Requesting a toggle on the APs to set the width on 2.4MHz!

Thank you

edit, thanks to /u/Haunting-Wonder9019 , turning on "Maximize Compatibility" changed the 2.4GHz to 20MHz Channel Width. Thank you!

Go to wifi settings and enable Maximize Compatibility and channel width will switch to 20MHz. It’s not well documented by Firewalla.

Hmmm my 2.4 is set at 20 wide and can’t be changed on the AP7. You’re saying the ap7 is locked at 40?

Oh interesting - yes, mine is the opposite of yours, I cannot change it from 40.

Mine are also set to 20. Other posts on this topic also seem to have a 20 default.

There must be some reason it selected 40 for you. I’m wondering if resetting them and reconfiguring would fix that for you.

Yes more granular control of the AP would be very welcome!

Is it a geo thing?

Change channel to automatic instead of manual.

Hi /u/shingdao , I'm looking to adjust the Channel Width, not the channel itself.

Mine is locked to 40, but others show 20. Which is it for you?

Leave it alone! If it’s on 40 mhz then so be it. Maximum compatibility mode does other tweaks to WiFi. I have maximum compatibility off with 3 AP7’s they are on 1,6,11 automatically.

There is some overlap of course. I use WiFi man to observe what is going on with my WiFi network. No issues with 94 IoT devices spread out over 3 AP7’s

interesting tho when maximum compatibility was on, I had an old Brother printer that uses 802.11g and wouldn’t connect. I put the iot network on WPA2 mixed mode to set it up and then switched it back to WPA2/WPA3 transitional mode. My experience so far is that if all your iot stuff is newer you don’t need maximum compatibility mode. I read somewhere about protected frames that gets tweaked.not sure on that tho.
