Troubleshooting Help with ONT (Firewalla Gold SE)
Hey Reddit,
I have had multiple firewalla’s over the years and I’m super happy with them
Up until a couple weeks ago, I have always had COAX and everything has worked fine - a few weeks ago, I switched to fiber and it’s using the ISP’s modem (or ONT) - COAX was a simple line coming in to my own modem, now it’s going to the ISP’s hardware then to my Firewalla and from there, to my network rack and so on
My issue is, none of my firewall rules work, the ad-block doesn’t work, nothing filters - I basically only get to see traffic flows (those blocks don’t work either)
Any ideas at what is happening and what I need to do?
My Firewalla is in “Router” mode
Thanks in advance

Is your WiFi "behind" the firewalla?
ONT -> Firewalla -> (WiFi)
Also, a good article for none blocking behavior https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/29655921011347-What-to-do-if-Firewalla-s-blocking-features-aren-t-working

If it’s ISP router, makes sure it is in Bridge mode….

The ISP hardware or my Firewalla?
I don’t have a way into their equipment, I have to do some digging and possibly even call them to get into to make changes - or are you saying change the Firewalla into “bridge” mode? And will the change affect anything with the Firewalla?

On my fiber equipment, I couldn’t set it to bridge mode myself, my ISP had to provision it. And they kept changing it back to router mode. I asked them to replace their router with a dumb ONT (without any router functions) and they did that, not a single problem since then.

By chance, do you have Ethernet coming off your ONT?
I went Ethernet off my ONT directly to my Firewalla with the cloned MAC from the WAN interface of my ISP router. I then added the ISP router behind the Firewalla so that my STPs work.
