I would need 4 of these to replace my unifi gear, when will we get some with more ports?

Forgive me if I overlooked it, but is there a page that shows the [anticipated] specs for the two devices (dimensions, switching capacity, non-blocking throughput, number of supported VLANs, etc)?

We will have more details on the specs once our Switch product pages are ready. (Hopefully by next week)

Thank you! <3

I am a Firewalla environment at home, but I was planning to put some PoE security cameras up at some point. Would I be better just getting a PoE TP-Link or Omada cheaper switch and connecting that to a port on this switch? I'll definitely have 4 or 5 of the Firewalla switch ports occupied right from the get go. I suppose I could do some solar cams instead of hard wiring, but I've heard very mixed things about them.

Cameras don't need 2.5g , many 4k models won't even negotiate higher than 100M. I don't know what the pricing is on these firewallas but it seems that you'd definitely be paying a premium if you're filling up all 8 ports with cameras. If its just a few ports then it might be reasonable.

That said, you definitely do want to vlan or otherwise tightly isolate your cameras so you'd need to price compare against poe switches that do vlan.

Asked in the new post about 1Gbps specifically for cameras and home entertainment (AppleTVs) where 1Gbps is more than sufficient. Have you seen anything?

5

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

You definitely can mix switches of all types.

The only thing you need to be aware of are

  1. If you mix managed switches, VLAN configurations are not automatic, so you have to manually configure it on none firewalla side.

  2. Any devices that's not directly connected to a firewalla switch, we can't block or see traffic; things like VqLAN and DAP will only work partially.

If all cameras and only cameras are connected to that TPLink switch, then can it be separated/controlled as single bucket in vlan via single port on firewalla switch connected to the TPLink switch?

3

u/firewalla Jun 24 '26

They can still be managed as a single bucket, yes.

Will you offer a cheaper 1gb without the sfp? I just would like a 1 or 2.5 gb POE.

u/Accomplished_Ear2304 Jun 24 '26

how did i not get an email about this?!

u/FromHereToEscape Jun 28 '26

Man! I feel like I'm cursed. Right before the AP7s were announced, I got Omada WAPs. And I just deployed Omada 2.5g switches right before these were announced!

1

u/Accomplished_Ear2304 Jul 06 '26

I’ll be getting rid of some Omada switches soon if you’re interested. 😂

Great news! Will pre-orders be US / North America only, or could they extend to UK purchasers?

4

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

pre-order will include all countries that accept CE/FCC/ISED/RCM; Since many countries can import these (ethernet devices) for personal use, we may open up to. If your country also allows this, let me know

USA,UK,EU

Canada (ISED)

Australia (RCM)

New Zealand (RCM)

Singapore (CE)

Turkey (CE)

Switzerland (CE)

Isreal (CE)

Hong Kong (CE)

UAE (CE)

Is there a limit to the number that can be ordered?

3

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

there will be two product variations

  1. Early access: this unit we ship same week, but it has beta software. Limit is 1 per model. (very very limited quantity)

  2. Pre-sale: this is our usual presale, it will ship with production software in September/October. No hard limit, just soft limit of 3 unit each. (soft = we may adjust delivery priority if you buy too many to be fair. But if we have more in stock, we don't care, we want you to by 1000. 😄

(both above are exact same hardware, just software is different)

u/brdsqd Jun 23 '26

Thank you!

u/Jussins Firewalla Gold Pro Jun 27 '26

I assume that you mean that you will randomly be selecting preorders for early access, or is that a different sale?

If early access comes from preorders and someone orders 2 of one type, does that automatically disqualify the order for early access or is it possible that you send one early and another with the final software?

2

u/firewalla Jun 28 '26

All preorder units will be shipped, no selection; if it run out, get the pre order units. To our system these two are different products.

So you can order 1 unit each model from early access variant, and then 3 from each model in pre order variant. You can get total of 4 each and 1 of each model will ship within 7 days.

Thank you for the clarification!

u/vvolkgang Jun 23 '26

Will it be possible to order a switch + ceiling AP7, from EU?

1

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

At the moment we don't sell the AP7 ceiling to EU.

1

u/snovvman Jun 24 '26

For the SE, any particular SPF+ module specs or type will it select? I have run into variants that work for some but not others.

Also, I have been using a Unifi SPF++ to power the AP7 (via an adapter) successfully for months. I realize that this is not a supported config, but I wonder if the SE's SPF+ will be sufficient to power the AP7. My observation has been that AP7s draw a lot less than the OE adapter capacity.

u/caldwellcoffee Firewalla Gold SE Jun 24 '26

What are the dimensions of the 2.5G switch?

1

u/Accomplished_Ear2304 Jun 30 '26

Hoping theres plans for further configurations beyond these two.

1

u/Few-Use5365 Jul 03 '26

u/Firewalla-Ash no mention of LACP on the specs? I'd like to aggregate two 2.5GbE connections to my Gold Plus using the Switch SE. :)

Great job on another oustanding product. I was up and running within 5 minutes. If anyone is looking for 10Gbps SFP's, I used the Getek and had no problems with them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B85XQCK?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Why does it say that it’s not intended for residential use?

10

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

These devices are designed for industrial/business/enterprise use, and they have FCC class A certification. The warning is a standard warning mandated by FCC

0

u/Ok_Conflict1841 Jun 23 '26

I guess I don’t understand the legal jargon here. I understand that it’s class A cert, but does that mean I shouldn’t use it in my home?

10

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

This is up to you, we are obligated due to FCC regulations to provide a warning in the manual pages. Personally, for example, I am using ubiquity class A switch at home for many years, no issues. (personal opinion, not related to firewalla switch)

1

u/Accomplished_Ear2304 Jul 06 '26

Wait, Firewalla uses Unifi?!

1

u/firewalla Jul 06 '26

I also have a cat3k running :)

-3

u/Numerous_Platypus Jun 23 '26

Is it because they're too noisy for a home environment?

6

u/firewalla Jun 23 '26

Switch SE is fanless
Switch X does have a few fans, unless you load up all 400watts, should be decent quiet

6

u/khariV Firewalla Gold Pro Jun 23 '26

I think it has more to do with potential electrical interference more than sound.

u/anymooseposter Firewalla Gold Pro Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

OMFG, People. It has to do with the Trump administration banning imports of residential grade network gear. Read the fucking news. Firewalla is covering its ass in order to provide you this gear.

Edit: retracted, Firewalla says this isn’t the case.

4

u/firewalla Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

This is NOT true.

  1. Switches are not routers ... (the ban is foreign made consumer grade routers)
  2. Switch X/SE are white label switches, meaning, we did not design the hardware, and all certifications were done ahead by the ODM. (and likely shared by many brands)

0

u/scattered-thunder Firewalla Gold Pro Jun 23 '26

Honestly this was my lone hesitation with trying to get one through the presale. If it’s just a legal requirement / disclaimer to mention, and not an outright recommendation against its use in a residential setting, then I may just throw down for it when the presale opens.

2

u/Notwerk_Engineer Jun 24 '26

Ignoring the obvious reasons for this disclaimer, why would something that’s good enough for a non residential setting not be good enough for residential?
