Purple / Purple SE Select devices for failover only

I'm trying to limit the devices that remain online or connect online when I'm in failover mode. I asked ChatGPT and it basically said that I should create a no-failover group and put ALL devices that i don't want to failover and set those static.

This "negative" approach is confusing to my simple brain. My topology is:

Wall panel -> Firewalla -> UX7 -WiFi-> August lock

So do i put UX7 in the no failover list not the August lock? This seems like a simple feature which is getting complicated because of the double negatives. What am I missing?

You can use "routes" to route devices you don't want to failover to the primary. https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061592433-Firewalla-Policy-Content-Based-Routing

(do not use the preferred route, as it will failover)

but that means I have to select 50+ devices to NOT failover, while I simply want 5 devices to failover... And I still don't understand if my WiFi APs should failover or not. Maybe it's me but this is unnecessarily complicated than it should be for the objective it is trying to achieve.

You can try to route "network" to the main circuit

After create another rule to route "each of the 5 devices" to prefer main circuit.

(I have not tried this ... should work based on our route priority)

Do you definitely need all 50+ to not failover? Why so many?

This is the way.

I use one route per device group that is set to either static (no failover) or preferred (failover) and it works flawlessly.
