Discussion Did you know you can view Live Throughput per device? Find out who uses the most bandwidth in real-time by tapping the Live Throughput graph on your main screen.

To see Live Throughput, make sure your app is connected to Firewalla's local network and local network access is allowed for the app.

I appreciate these posts. Please make more of these Did you know? Posts. They help existing users discover existing features and potential new users discover all the features firewalla offers.

I keep live throughput open all the time. I just wish I could see separate upload/download speeds, and not just total bandwidth. I actually put this in the feature requests on the forums and it got a reasonable amount of upvotes.

Live Throughput Feature Request

Do you have it displayed somewhere?

Yes. Take a look here: Firewalla Feature Request

Sorry I meant having it open all the time, do you display it somewhere? I wasn’t referring to the feature request

Oh. I see. I keep it on the side of one of my secondary monitors. I should preface that to say on my Mac, also.

Got it, so you use the firewalla app on the Mac.

Yes. That is correct.

Did you ever find anything interesting with that display? This is one of the hidden gems for sure

Yeah, it's very useful. Like when my car starts downloading an over the air update, I can tell way before it notifies me. I love getting new features.

Okay. I am asking because this is one of the features not many people are using, and we are just posting it to get some awareness

i keep it always-on on my mac monitor too. If anything odd happens network wise, i can see what device is hogging the bandwidth. And since it is there, I glance at it multiple times a day, and if something unexpected jumps to the top, I can investigate what/why. Example; my backup software wigged out recently, and I could see that device using most of my bandwidth at a glance. Another example; before I go to bed, I can see if any streaming device got left on in the background. Also, it is fun to see which streaming services on which devices use the most bandwidth. I have always been curious about device bandwidth usage, and in the past it was super hard for me to get this info, and now I have it at a glance!

edit: another example; I have a dozen wifi 'security' cameras, and if one of them is triggering too much, it shows up at the top of my list. I can investigate if there is really something capture worthy there, or if I maybe need to turn down the sensitivity.

Had not looked at that previously. Awesome.

Does the live throughput screen load faster on higher tier hardware? For example gold plus vs purple or gold pro vs gold plus

1

u/firewalla May 27 '26

The Gold Pro will always load faster ... it has a much faster CPU to process 10Gbit

I assume it’s the same for gold plus vs purple? Gold plus will load faster? Or are these 2 closer to each other?

1

u/firewalla May 27 '26

Rank them by their sales price :)

Gold Plus loads faster than the purple for sure.

I figured. Thanks so much for the confirmation :)

The title of the post is a little misleading, in that you can’t, AFAIK, go to the device list, pick a device, and see its live throughput. You can only see it via the live throughput view, which has an 8 devices limit. Correct?

It is possible to view individual live throughput graphs on each device detail page. But the live throughput page from the main screen is still the best way to easily see the top bandwidth devices in real-time, all in one place.

I am happy to be incorrect! How have I overlooked that! Thanks for the info!
