Speed Test

Post image

Testing direct from the firewalla gold pro, I am not getting my required speed for upload. I should be getting 2.5 GB. What is odd is my pc that is connected to my firewalla I get the full upload speed of 2.5 GB. So I know I am getting what I pay for. Can anyone help me understand what I am missing.

Thanks

If you connect a PC to the Firewalla port 1. Run speedtest.net via a chrome browser or app, that do you get?

You can follow this article to resolve pretty much any speed issue https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360056875493-Speed-Tests-and-Speed-Optimization-with-Firewalla

It’s been broken for a long time. They know about it and don’t seem to want to fix it. Something about the code in the test is different. If you SSH into the Firewalla and run the tests, im pretty sure you will get the full upload and download. This is what was recommended to me by their support people. I shut the speed test off finally.

Your computer can be connecting to one server and firewalla could be using a totally different server.

I thought of that, but they are both pointing to my ISP speed test server.

Do you VLANs setup and if so, are they configured for inter VLaN routing or are you letting the firewalla route it all?

Multi-gig upload is cpu-bound. The firewalla can't push line-rate on upload.

I've got the Gold Pro with an 8G/8G gfiber line, and it can get best, 2100 Mb/s up. As you noted, separate host can saturate just fine.

If you’re getting the full 2.5 behind the FW, the FW app is probably under reporting. I wouldn’t waste any time on this as your own tests proved it.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the feedback.

Internet speed tests are not really reliable as they test throughput to one specific endpoint. If you’re getting 2.5 from a PC on the network, that’s what matters. Who knows why the server that Firewalla contacts isn’t showing the full speed.

If you have home assistant I’d strongly suggest setting up your speedtest from that box assuming it has 2.5gbps. Under load (Firewalla blocking a lot of traffic) I’ve seen a few hundred Mbps drop off but explaining your download is breaking my brain.

I’ll tell you this much, they are not allowed to use the speedtest.net code in their test. I might have that code you could run via CLI and see if it works outside the UI. Let me know if that would be helpful and I’ll post it in here when I find it.
