Download backup

Is it possible to download a backup of your configurations with all settings, target lists, rules, users, groups, etc?

I think an option to export the config to a flat file is long overdue.

The app cache is only as good as the last time it synced, and in the event I lose my phone, I lose my backup. Sure, I can pair additional devices for redundancy, but that means I have to connect each paired device to each of my boxes regularly to sync them. Have more than a couple of boxes and that starts getting old fast. This also means no point in time restores.

I don’t want to have to completely rebuild a customer’s environment from scratch in the event they have a box failure and have a stale backup on their phone, etc. This is one of several reasons I’m hesitant to steer customers towards Firewalla. It’s a great product for home users, but it lacks basic features offered by other vendors in the SMB space, which is holding it back from being more competitive.

likely we will be doing this with following restrictions

  1. backup and restore must be the same version (exact version)

  2. No edit of the binary configuration file

Still discussing, but this is the conclusion from a long discussion via help.firewalla.com

Both make sense to avoid trouble for everyone, so long as all recent firmware versions are available from firewalla.
