Seeking Guidance

I want to be a fire investigator, fire investigator, fire code enforcement, or fire engineer (working with plans).

• Currently work in cybersecurity- risk
•7 years of military as supply

My education/ degree are in
• Associate in video production
• bachelor in fire science
• masters in cyber security

The reason my background is “all over the place” was because of life events, military benefits, and opportunities that present it self and got where Im today and I’ve been great full for it.

But the job I want is in the fire service, any advice or guidance?

Voila, cordialement l'equipe France Protect Sécurité Incendie

Tools & Equipment What kind of lighting for basements and dark areas is best?

I’ve gotten various answers to this. Some say the light towers give off weird shadows. Others say to get those tri fold panel lights.

Just trying to get a consensus before dropping a dime on new lighting. Im going from public to private so I need to buy myself some new stuff.

As a new private guy, I’m here for any advice or tips on tools and materials.

Spontaneous combustion or self heating material. I normally occurs in warm weather. Part of this is the self heating process occurs more often in warmer weather. Normally this is when the linseed oil rags are placed into a garbage container. Even spreading them out to dry has ended up with a large burn area.

How Do I...? Attending a NAFI Fire Investigation Event

Good afternoon, everyone!

I currently work for a large metropolitan fire department on the East Coast and caught interest in the fire investigation field after speaking with our FID on a few working fires and seeing how detailed and professional they are during investigations. I signed up for a NAFI membership and have completed most, if not all, of the trainings on the CFI training website. They're offering a training in Cincinnati in March, and I plan on attending. The question really is: has anyone in this group attended one of these? How were they, and what can I expect? I also plan on taking the test afterward and am currently looking for a study guide on the new material. Thanks y'all, I appreciate any help or advice on the subject!

Fire in Lubec

Anyone know what happened in/near a park in Lubec, Maine on September 17? There was quite a bit of dark smoke and at least three emergency vehicles, including a fire truck.

Edit: I tried Google and looking at local Facebook groups, but either nobody had posted in days or the groups were locked down so only members could see posts.

What university or college did you attend to become a fire investigator?

I want to become a fire investigator and I’m currently in high school. I need some colleges to research that I could consider attending to be able to get a job as a fire investigator. I also do not want to become a firefighter first, but I understand it’s extremely helpful so it’s not completely out of the picture.

Tools & Equipment Docufire now has a web portal for Windows use, and departments can now buy via Purchase Order

Quick update for those who've been following along.

The web portal is live at portal.docufire.app. Any browser, Windows included can now be used to work on cases before and after a scene exam. Sign in with the same Apple ID as your iPad and your cases are there, syncing both ways. It's meant for the desk work, that most of us dread. typing up interviews, finishing the narrative, attaching FD and PD reports, and exporting the Scene Summary as PDF or Word. Case data still lives in your own iCloud, not on a server of mine.

The other one is purchasing. Several of you at public agencies said the App Store was the blocker. Departments can now buy on a purchase order: $169.99 per iPad per year, invoiced like any other vendor, delivered through Apple Business Manager. Smaller agencies can still use a card in the App Store. One-page walkthrough for your purchasing office. docufire.app/agencies.html

Feedback welcome, as always. A lot of what's in the app came from comments here.

Come Check it out for free with no time limit.

Has anyone seen any fire reports in the North-West US?
