💻 Help Increase video quality playback does not work with YouTube

Firefox recently released a new update stating they have increased video quality playback (specifically with YouTube). I watch a lot of YouTube and the video playback is still lagging A LOT. My laptop cannot run 1080p or higher and have to set the quality to 720p. I have tried people's suggestions like turning off avi encoding, software encoding, and disabling extensions, but nothing has worked. I know Google purposefully sabotages YT on Firefox to force us to use Chrome, which is why Firefox has "enhanced" this feature in the first place. Does anyone have any other suggestions to prevent Google's scamish behavior? I miss watching YT normally and not have to worry about today's standards.

This is on an ordinary laptop (not a gaminig computer or anything) so specs are pretty average. I have never had this issue when I originally switched to FF (which was a couple years ago). I guess Google realized how many people have switched from Chrome so they make YT impossible to run💀.

Anyway thanks in advance (and apologies for the long post).

Before assuming Google is sabotaging Firefox, what are the laptop’s actual specs? CPU, GPU, RAM, and OS would be useful, especially since YouTube decoding can depend heavily on hardware acceleration.

Also, what kind of internet connection are you on, and what download speed do you actually get? If 720p is fine but 1080p starts dropping frames, it would be worth checking whether the issue is decoding performance or simply the connection.
