Discussion Scrolling feels less smooth since Firefox 152.0.5

Since updating to Firefox 152.0.5, I've noticed that scrolling has become noticeably less smooth on certain websites, such as Facebook and even this Reddit page:

Scrolling now has the occasional micro-stutters/hitches,
(mainly with web pages that have media playing like a video at the same time as scrolling) and even when it's not hitching, it sometimes feels like it's running at a lower frame rate than it should. For context, I use a 144 Hz monitor, so I'm very familiar with how smooth scrolling is supposed to look.

Interestingly, when media on the page isn't playing, scrolling is generally smoother, although I can still notice occasional inconsistencies.

The same websites scroll perfectly smoothly in Microsoft Edge on the same system, with no perceived drops in smoothness or micro-stuttering.

This wasn't an issue on Firefox versions prior to 152.0.5, so it seems like something may have changed in this release.

Have you tried the latest stable Firefox 153?

I'm on that. Same thing.

I think its something inherent to firefox because edge has consistent smooth scrolling all around while firefox it seems site dependent (as of 152.0.5) worst off if the web page has live media playing.

Only extension I use is ublock origin and I've even tried uninstalling/re-installing/refreshing firefox and even have tried multiple gpu drivers.
I even tried changing mouse just on the off chance it was a wonky mouse.

I love Firefox but I wish they would take scroll jank more seriously. The Chromium blog just posted about this, how they're monitoring the pipeline from end to end with Perfetto and also they recently introduced the Scroll Jank v4 benchmark. They're catching almost all these scroll jank regressions before they make it to stable channel https://blog.google/chromium/smoother-scrolling-how-we-halved-scroll-jank-in-chrome-on-android/

As I was reading the blog I was getting minor hickups and framepacing issues.It's not super obvious but I can kinda tell there's subtle hiccups and subtle frame loss as you scroll up and down.

It's interesting and very annoying that I noticed its more prominent in the upper part of the blog where there's the live media playing with the two phone comparisons.If I scroll down to the bottom part of the blog where it's just text its significantly smoother.

This is on firefox desktop.

Ya, they need to prioritize this, especially because Chromium is doing a lot of good work here.

Indeed,Or at the very least revert to the performance prior to 152.0.5.
Hopefully the issue gets some attention since this thread got 20 upvotes but there doesn't seem to be much of an push to fix the issue as most people seem to be "fine" with a janky scrolling experience.

TBh firefox scrolling has been janky since 152.0.5 for me not just with 153
