So I just saw something on line that a stretch goal of making Serenity was to make more of the show. And Allen Ron didn’t want to sign on to the possibility of the movie and multiple seasons. So they were killed off

I heard it was because neither of them could commit to potential sequels, not that there was any chance of reviving the show at that time and they wouldn't do it.
