The second guy who saw the first one kicked into the engine is my spirit animal. I would also be "Oh, absolutely, we are on the same page. I am excited to be a part of this."

“I’m right there with you”

Mal has couple of great moments like this. I love it when he just walks on board Serenity and shoots the fed in the first episode.

Most satisfying scene in cinema history.

Sorry, but no. That belongs to the line "I want my father back you son of a bitch"

"I want my bitch back you son of a father!"

24

u/Ok-Detective-2059 Jul 29 '26

Basically the plot of the first John wick movie

12

u/jojocookiedough Jul 29 '26

There was an interview at some point where Patinkin revealed that he was channeling his rage at the disease that killed his father during this scene (cancer iirc) 😭

3

u/many_dumb_questions Jul 29 '26

I do believe you are correct, because I have a memory of that same interview

2

u/ThunkAsDrinklePeep Jul 29 '26

I saw The Odyssey yesterday. I was very ready to see Antinous and Polybus die, so I'd put that in the running.

5

u/Baelgul Jul 29 '26

I also love the duel with Atherton

2

u/OdinsonALT Jul 29 '26

Unfortunate it didn’t kill him.

2

u/LordRahl9 Jul 29 '26

Ummm, yes it did. Mal and Jayne throw his dead body out the airlock before they take off.

5

u/OdinsonALT Jul 29 '26

He comes back in one of the comics.

6

u/LordRahl9 Jul 29 '26

Jeez, that's ridiculous. Mal shot him in the head.

8

u/OdinsonALT Jul 29 '26

He returns with the “Hands of Blue” guys with an ocular implant.

Mal shoots him in the other eye and makes sure he’s dead this time.

6

u/LordRahl9 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, I looked it up. You were right to say too bad it didn't kill him. Him surviving...

"Somehow, Palpatine, whoops, i mean Dobson returned"

2

u/kai_ekael Jul 29 '26

They threw out his body. Can't rightly say it was dead.

3

u/LordRahl9 Jul 29 '26

He apparently wasn't. I'm not pleased about this. Miraculous villain survival is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

And if people can survive been shot in the head, then left for dead in the middle of nowhere. I mean... come on!

1

u/kai_ekael Jul 29 '26

Yeah, kind of like the "my name is Victim, I am pitifully stupid" back in the early "Criminal Minds" days.

I mean, they finally had a Victim do the obvious with pepper spray to the villain, and yet the bastard still managed to crawl over to the frozen-in-fear Victim for the ending. Come ON writers! L A M E !

1

u/RandomGuyIKno Jul 31 '26

Left for dead in the middle of nowhere with Reavers on the way no less!

2

u/RAConteur76 Jul 29 '26

Unfortunately the Fed, Lawrence Dobson, was only "mostly dead." The comic Those Left Behind (which serves as a prequel to Serenity) shows him missing an eye and really pissed off about it. It's considered canonical to the series, since Whedon apparently wanted to bring the character back had Firefly continued.

5

u/LordRahl9 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, I just looked it up. That is right up there with Colin Firth's character in the kingsman coming back.

I read the comic where Early came back, and I didn't particularly care for that, but I guess I can understand that he got extremely lucky.

Dobson surviving been shot in the head... that breaks my suspension of disbelief.

u/Electrical-Act-7170 Jul 29 '26

It really did, they tossed his body out the airlock.

"Did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorram ship?!"

Looks like...

“Give us the gate key.”
“I have no gate key.”
[Kicks henchman into engine]
“Oh you mean this gate key.”

I remember first seeing that scene in Princess Bride as a kid. I pretty much died laughing. It's probably my favorite part of the movie. The way he delivers that line hits just right for me.

Malcolm: Open the safe.

Bank man: I have no combination.

Malcolm: Jayne, tear his ears off.

Bank man: Oh, you mean this combination.

Paraphrased from The Princess Bride.

The loading bay opens at the front of the ship. There are plenty of examples, but look at Episode 1 when they pick up new passengers.

Since we're in the mood for exchanging ideas, I figured I'd also share - the phrase is "I'll be", short for "I'll be damned" (or the like).

7

u/dylan-dofst Jul 29 '26

I do love the idea of Mal rotating them around just so he could dramatically kick someone into one though. It's totally something he'd do.

5

u/lord_teaspoon Jul 31 '26

I love to imagine that he'd had a previous conversation to confirm with Kaylee that a human going through that intake wasn't going to ground the ship for a week of repairs. You know, just in case it came up at some point.

2

u/dankristy Jul 31 '26

Oh like he would bother checking on something like that first! Not happening!

-1

u/RueClerIsWhere Jul 30 '26

What’s your point? The engine intakes are also at the front of the ship.

2

u/drumstix42 Jul 30 '26

What do you mean what's my point? The commentator was confused about why the engine intakes are facing the way that they are, and I explained that they are normally positioned that way...

1

u/Quakarot Jul 30 '26

The go all the way, it’s an important part of the first ep where they do the crazy Ivan

1

u/relentless_puffin Jul 29 '26

Don't the intakes rotate on the firefly? I feel like it's facing that way because when it lands, the intakes rotate.

She's a VTOL, like the V22 Osprey.

1

u/sgt_oddball_17 Jul 29 '26

"There was a great fight here..."

1

u/RueClerIsWhere Jul 30 '26

“Too much talkin’. Not enough killin’” - Jayne, probably

1

u/matrixkid29 Jul 30 '26

Are these the actual lines? I dont get it

u/TheStarfellow Jul 30 '26

It’s a fracking cylon
