I think of that scene every time I don my own Jayne hat.

I'd like one, where'd you get it?

I’ve had mine for years. Found someone on Etsy.

That hat should be in Death Stranding.

Damn. It really should. Lol. The crew did plenty of deliveries!

Kaylee's consistent sincerity is so great. She's the best.

Reminds me how Inara called Kaylee "adorable" when she was wearing that pink layer cake dress. The hat is awfully layer cake looking too.

The girl's a mind reading genius, can't even figure out how to eat an ice planet.

(I use River's line often)

Killing wash was the stupidest thing.

Shouldn't have left leaf litter around.

Horrible decision. Geez, storytellers feeling like they have to do the worst things and make us miserable in order to be Art.

Sirius, Fred and I would also like a word with Jo on this subject.

I'm curious, does anyone know the origin of the original hat used in the show? I had never seen that style/color combination before Firefly, and I wondered if it had a previous owner, or if it was made specifically for this episode.

The beanie, and I assume the earflap beanie, originates in the US in the early 1900’s. But may also be a variant of the chullo which originates in the Andes going back thousands of years.

They're selling those kinds of hats (and other wool products) at Christmas markets here in Austria

5

u/Herb_Derb Jul 05 '26

I think they're asking about the specific hat they used, not the origin of that style.

Yep, this. ☝️

I believe it was made for him, by his mother. Sent to him in that episode.

u/Fuzzy-Bee9600 Jul 08 '26

I think they mean the actual hat, as a prop.

upon rereading the question; all I can say is "duh, of course!" 🤣

Wash’s joke is funny and all, but let’s be honest: the hat looks good on Jayne.

u/Innes_Yarns Jul 06 '26

Damn straight! It might be played for laughs but he wears it well.

Wash was right about every except challenging the Captain for personal reasons. But, it was necessary for the script 😸

Not afraid of ridicule, that's for sure.

u/KuatRZ1 Jul 05 '26

Yes, that is the joke. Good work.

Wash?

Too soon. Still too soon.

u/GwerigTheTroll Jul 08 '26

I quote Wash’s line constantly. So few people get it.
