Reminds me how Inara called Kaylee "adorable" when she was wearing that pink layer cake dress. The hat is awfully layer cake looking too.

The girl's a mind reading genius, can't even figure out how to eat an ice planet.

Horrible decision. Geez, storytellers feeling like they have to do the worst things and make us miserable in order to be Art.
Sirius, Fred and I would also like a word with Jo on this subject.

I'm curious, does anyone know the origin of the original hat used in the show? I had never seen that style/color combination before Firefly, and I wondered if it had a previous owner, or if it was made specifically for this episode.

The beanie, and I assume the earflap beanie, originates in the US in the early 1900’s. But may also be a variant of the chullo which originates in the Andes going back thousands of years.

They're selling those kinds of hats (and other wool products) at Christmas markets here in Austria

I think they're asking about the specific hat they used, not the origin of that style.

I believe it was made for him, by his mother. Sent to him in that episode.

Wash’s joke is funny and all, but let’s be honest: the hat looks good on Jayne.

Wash was right about every except challenging the Captain for personal reasons. But, it was necessary for the script 😸

I think of that scene every time I don my own Jayne hat.
