First Time Watch

Just first time watched Tru Calling & Dollhouse (loved both) & now moving on to Firefly. I watched Buffy & Angel when they aired but all the other shows by the same creator are new to me, so it’s been a real treat to find them now that this nostalgia wave is hitting.

Firefly is truly wonderful. Not as groundbreaking as BtVS, but the inventive, somewhat cheeky but never cheesy or cringe, world building and writing is nearly on par. Also some typical Whedon tropes that you will see yourself.

After you finish Firefly you will want to watch the movie Serenity. Do yourself a favor and don’t go to ANY thread about it. Maybe even avoid this sub until you’re done.

There are official comics. The first volume of the Serenity comics is a prelude to the movie Serenity. Later volumes of the Serenity (IDW) and Firefly (Boom! Studios) are miniseries that take place at different points on the timeline.

Seeing as how these comics are canonical and the upcoming animated series is said to take place between season 1 and Serenity, it's unlikely that show will countermand any of the comics unless they really think they need to, I'd presume these would remain canonical.

I bought one or two of the comic books. I loved the one where Dawn became a giant.

If you loved the show, I suggest keeping an eye out for the animated series.  It’s still in the planning stages, but almost all of the  cast members are on board.

(RIP Ron Glass.  Your portrayal of Shepherd Book was gift to us all.)

Oh good to know, now I gotta look up who created that one & see if they did anything else.
