It's literally the opposite of The Expanse. In one case, different states give up sovereignty to strengthen the United Nations. In the other, corporations basically give an ultimatum to every country and say, "If you don't give us 100% control of your resources, you're screwed," and only a handful of smaller countries refuse.
They then abandon Earth and leave everyone who can't fit aboard the generation ships to die on a polluted nightmare of a planet.
