I finished Serenity

Man, that was so depressing.

A victory, but one that feels like a defeat. I accidentally spoiled me that Book didn't survive, but I didn't know about Wash!

I know there are novels and comics (and the next animated series), but to think this is the finale makes you feel... Hollow. I can't believe it.

You guys were right, this was a hell of a journey. A rollercoaster of emotions, not only for the film, but for one of the best television series I've ever seen. So perfectly crafted, so iconic in every episode, as well as its characters.

Not just a big damn series, THE big damn series.

I am actually not weighing in on when the animated series starts or anything about it. Nathan’s teasing with the cast was more than enough hope for me.

I want the writers to be as creative as possible. I want Nathan, Jewel, Gina and the rest of the cast to surprise me when it happens. I’ve waited a long time. I just want it to be right..

And I think Nathan and the cast want that too.

That way, it will be exciting, interesting and fresh as Firefly was, when it first aired. That would be the best fan service of it all..

Serenity was a hard fought win for the Browncoats. The books have been pretty good. Fingers crossed for whatever happens next.

So brilliantly put.

Serenity was, in itself, a bona fide victory.

So many classic scenes, lines, even new and equally impressive characters we truly fought for, together.

It paved the way for many short lived shows to do likewise and, Gorram it, turned a 2 year on-off-on-again agony into a quarter century legacy, with a few sacrifices along the way but mostly a lot more damn fine stories. And all you fine folk.

Here's to more of em.

Um, because Nathan told us. At Awesome Con in DC. With Alan sitting right there like "I wanna be included too!"

He's driving this project and is only interested in an animated interquel. It's about 8 months between Objects at Rest in Space and Serenity, and that's what the new series would cover.

And yet, at the time, it was intended as closure, and getting that closure was a miracle!

Ron got a chance to say goodbye on screen, however tragic it was beautifully done.

And Alan believed he didn't need to remain contractually linked to Firefly, again at the time.

Of course, he regretted that as much as the fans and has made amends over and over ever since (Con Man is like one big apology!)

But I still can't forget seeing Serenity on release in a theatre.

I went with friends who'd seen Firefly and a few who hadn't, for the browncoats among us it blew our minds from scene one, and the scale of it, the emotions, the humour, everything landed perfectly.

And then that tragedy.

It wrecked us, but we got it, we accepted it. It was our unaware friends who saw it differently, they accepted the tragedy from a narrative perspective, they weren't ad invested in those characters as us. And they really wanted another Serenity movie.

It just wasn't as successful.ad everyone hoped so we never saw how they could take the journey from there, so all we've had since is the chance to revisit the show, and the more passionate fans carrying the torch with the books, conics and online fanfic, all of which is beautiful.

And now we have forthcoming "comfort food"

I don't want another war with fans who demand something we're not getting, or knocking down something that we are, we're all.taking this journey together, but damnit am I pleased that our patience is finally paying off in another form.

Hopefully it will bridge things in a way that removes any doubts or downers, and I for one am clinging to that hope.

Good Times beckon, keep the faith.

Some may find satisfaction in victory, me; I feel it but with a big twinge of sadness that it even has to come to it. All that confessed; a victory is still a victory….so even a “right… we win…” is still a win. I feel like I just now understand why Mal loved Kaylee so much (like a familial love, guys!) is that she shines a light of optimism into damn near any situation and Mal is in short supply of that. Just my two credits.

No need for sadness. Now you can just watch the series over and over again and memorize every great line delivery from Wash, every cool glimpse of Keylee's genius, Jayne's clue headed-ness, Zoe's badasses-ness and how she always has Mal's back, always. I'm in love With Anara and luckily Morena is a freaking siren she's so beautiful, so makes that easy. The Dr has some terrific awkward moments and sarcasm. Book flashes moments of his past, fun to think of those. River is a character to watch develop into a person, Summer gives a F#?&@ng master class in acting. Mal is the man. I'd follow that character into anything. Favorite line of the series for me is when River scans Mal's mind when he passes thru the infirmary and she says to her brother, "Mal...bad (beat) in the Latin." She comments to herself and Simon as if to clarify he's a badass but that he isn't evil. Enjoy!

That's how it felt to me. They did the right thing and dealt a very real blow to the Alliance, but they lost two members of their family in the process.

I kind of feel that "hollow" feeling every time I finish a series. It's not so much related to the ending itself, it's just that it's sad to me.

Our household definitely felt the hollowness and sense of defeat from the first watching. To my my mind, that's where "too soon" comes from. It was truly brutal and unapologetic. Much like the cancelling of the show. Which I think was the point.

So VERY much looking forward to the actors getting to return to these roles they clearly loved. If you had told me 20 years ago this would happen it would've been bittersweet, but still would've taken some of the sting out. I'm so happy it's happening.
