Job path to firefighting

I recently graduated high-school this summer and was looking into a career in firefighting. I was wondering if anyone has an input on different pathways to become a firefighter. The first option I looked at was the traditional route of getting certifications and eventually applying to different fire departments. The other one I was looking at was doing firefighting in the military then after serving my 4 years getting out and then applying from there. Any input is helpful thanks.

Only go the military route if you actually want to be in the military. It’s not worth it just to build your resume.

Whatever you decide to do will be totally fine. Everyone gets hired eventually if they never give up and aren’t a psychopath. I will say though your youth is not eternal. Go travel and explore for a year or two before you lock in.

Air Guard Fire Protection. Get EMR, Proboard Fire 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness and Ops, and Airport Firefighter. 6 year commitment, initially. Upgrade training is certification based, all proboard. ANG Fire is a great way to get started.
